Boiler fans commonly used in power plants are frequently characterized by very low efficiency. It is connected with an incorrect selection of the fan performance with respect to the real operation point and, additionally, with an application of typical shutter guide vanes that are characterized by a simple structure but relatively low efficiency. A scaled model of the selected real fan has been made and a series of experimental investigations has been performed in order to find the most efficient system, which is presented in the first part of the paper. In the second part, results of the conducted experimental investigations are compared with the results obtained from the numerical simulation of the fan operation.
