The article concerns the issues of forecasting trends of safety performance indicators (SPIs)in civil aviation. The main objective was to present a proposal for the method of forecasting trends in air traffic safety performance indicators in the future. For this purpose, a SPI forecasting method based on Holt's exponential smoothing model was proposed. To confirm the correctness of the proposed method, a selected, sample safety performance indicator for Airspace Infringement occurrences was forecasted. An analysis of the obtained results was carried out, as well as the directions of further research in this area were presented. The article discusses also the issues of forecasting development trends of selected safety performance indicators and their variability over time for the Polish airspace.

Po wieloletnim okresie systematycznego spadku liczby ofiar śmiertelnych i rannych w wypadkach drogowych w ostatnich kilku latach nastąpiła stagnacja, a nawet odwrócenie tej korzystnej tendencji. Pandemia COVID-19, w wyniku której nastąpiło zmniejszenie mobilności mieszkańców, przyczyniła się do powrotu do tendencji spadkowej liczby ofiar śmiertelnych i ciężko rannych. W artykule przedstawiono prognozę liczby ofiar śmiertelnych i ciężko rannych na koniec roku 2020 będącego ostatnim rokiem realizacji IV Narodowego Programu BRD. Przedstawiono założenia i wymagania Organizacji Narodów Zjednoczonych i Komisji Europejskiej skierowane do krajów członkowskich w sprawie redukcji ofiar śmiertelnych i ciężkorannych w wypadkach drogowych w Nowej Dekadzie (w latach 2021–2030). Przedstawiono także problemy i możliwości realizacji tych wymagań w Polsce.

After many years of systematic decrease in the number of road fatalities and injuries, this favourable trend has stagnated or even reversed over the past few years. The COVID-19 pandemic, which resulted in a decrease in the mobility of inhabitants, contributed to a return to the downward trend in the number of deaths and seriously injured. The article presents the forecast of the number of fatalities and seriously injured at the end of 2020, which is the last year of implementation of the 4th National Road Safety Program. The assumptions and requirements of the United Nations and the European Commission addressed to the member states on the reduction of fatalities and serious injuries in road accidents in the New Decade (in the years 2021–2030) have been presented. The problems and possibilities of implementing these requirements in Poland have also been discussed.
