An analysis of the Ghanaian power generation sector using an optimization model

The Ghana power sector has faced several challenges in the area of supply-demand balances alongside electricity tariff regulations, in particular during the past decade. This has had direct consequences on its ability to meet increasing demand. Other issues are expected to arise in the future, such as the introduction of carbon tax and a move to renewables to reduce atmospheric emissions. This paper addresses these issues through creating scenarios and making comparisons, which provide ideas on how these situations might affect the generation mix and the cost of generation. To this end a shortrun computable model of the Ghana power generation system was developed to analyze those scenarios. The model is developed in the General Algebraic Modelling System (GAMS) as a Linear Programming problem.

W artykule poruszono zagadnienie możliwości stosowania narzędzi analizy danych gospodarczych w celu pozyskania informacji logistycznych. W grupie tych narzędzi są sztuczne sieci neuronowe. W artykule przybliżono i krótko omówiono zasady funkcjonowania sieci neuronowych. Podano również ich podstawowe zalety. Opisano możliwości szerokiego ich stosowania, jak również obszary i zadania, w których się nie sprawdzają. Obszarem szerokich zastosowań sieci neuronowych jest prognozowanie i planowanie. W prezentowanym opracowaniu podjęto próbę wykorzystania ich do przygotowania prognozy popytu. Prognozę opracowano dla dwóch grup asortymentowych towarów. Uzyskany wynik prognozy poddano następnie ocenie. Ocenę przeprowadzono poprzez porównanie otrzymanej prognozy z rzeczywistym popytem. Uzyskane wyniki są podstawą zawartych w opracowaniu wniosków na temat użyteczności tej grupy narzędzi prognostycznych w badanym obszarze.

The issue of possibility of the tools applying of the economic data analysis in order to gain the logistic information was raised in the article. Artificial neural networks are in the group of these tools. Functional principles of neural networks were introduced and shortly discussed in the article. Their basic advantages were also given. Possibilities of their wide applying were described as well as the areas and tasks in which they don’t come true. Forecasting and planning are the area of the wide use of neural networks. The attempt of using them to preparation of demand forecast was undertaken in the presented study. The forecast worked out for two groups of assortment goods. The result of the forecast was subjected to the assessment then. The assessment was conducted by the comparison of the received course with the real demand course. Received results are the basis contained in the study conclusions on the topic of the usefulness of this group of forecasting tools in the studied area.

Outsourcing usług logistycznych pozwala przedsiębiorstwu optymalnie kształtować fizyczne procesy dystrybucji. Przedstawiona analiza kosztów outsourcingu usług logistycznych w sferze zaopatrzenia i dystrybucji pokazuje procentowy udział kosztów transportu w cenie zakupu i marży. W ostatniej części referatu na podstawie przeprowadzonych badań opinii klientów przedstawione zostały kryteria wyboru przedsiębiorstwa TSL

The paper presents the meaning distribution of logistics in the activity firm and the most important function as demand of prognosis for sale and what have the influence on necessity of customers. The logistics outsourcing allow the firm to shape the distribution process. The analysis showed the cost of outsourcing in the supply and in the distribution. The research present the percent of transport cost in the price purchase and margin. The paper had estimated of value and customers satisfaction. One of the quality process is the logistics customer service, which is very important in the logistics chain.

Najbliższe dwa lata będą okresem istotnego spowolnienia gospodarczego, zarówno na świecie, jak i w Polsce. Pytanie, na które staramy się odpowiedzieć w referacie dotyczy wpływu tego spowolnienia, a także innych czynników na popyt na kruszywa w kraju w najbliższych latach. Koncentrujemy się przy tym na kruszywach łamanych, a ponieważ większość popytu na te kruszywa jest generowana przez branżę drogowo-mostową, to prezentujemy nasze prognozy dla tej branży. Przedstawiamy także wynikającą z tych rozważań prognozę popytu na kruszywa do 2015 roku.

During the next two years we will face a slowdown in most world economies and in many industries. In the paper we analyze how the Polish aggregates industry, especially the crushed rock segment, might be affected by the slowdown. Since the road-building industry is the main driving force behind demand for crushed rock, we discuss our forecast for that industry, explaining the nature of the difference when compared to our last year's projections. We present our mid-term - 2009 till 2015 - outlook for the demand for crushed rock as well as sand and gravel, driven by Polish road-building industry. Despite the macro-economic slowdown, we anticipate the demand to grow, thanks to large infrastructure projects that we expect to be undertaken in the next couple of years.

Budownictwo drogowe jest głównym czynnikiem kształtującym popyt na kruszywa łamane w Polsce. Jego rola na rynku żwirów i piasków jest znacznie mniejsza, choć również znacząca. W artykule analizujemy popyt budownictwa drogowego na kruszywa, charakteryzujemy firmy drogowe, które stanowią dominującą grupę odbiorców kruszyw łamanych i zamieszczamy prognozy tego popytu do roku 2015. Przewidujemy, że w najbliższych latach popyt na kruszywa łamane istotnie wzrośnie - w niektórych latach do 80 min ton - a jego główną siłą napędową będą roboty drogowe.

Demand for crushed rock in Poland is driven mainly by the road-building industry. Its role on the sand and gravel market is not that crucial, though still significant. We start the paper with the analysis of demand for aggregates. Next, we shortly characterize the road-building industry, focusing on selected features that are important for the producers of aggregates. Finally, we outline our demand forecast, for aggregates for road building until 2015. We expect that in the coming years the demand for aggregates, especially for crushed rock, will significantly increase (in some years, more than double, when compared with the current consumption).
