This paper presents the approach of conducting proficiency tests (PT) on the determination of radionuclides in food and environmental samples adopted by the Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology (INCT), Warsaw, Poland and the results of the provided PTs. The PTs have been organized by the National Atomic Energy Agency (NAEA), Poland, since 2004. The activity of the following radionuclides: 241Am, 137Cs, 3H, 239Pu, 226Ra and 90Sr were determined. The test materials: water, milk powder, wheat flour and soil, were prepared by spiking blank materials with standard solution of the radionuclide of interest. The activity concentrations were calculated and associated uncertainties were evaluated before sending the test materials to the laboratories. The results provided by the participants were statistically evaluated by means of z and zeta scores as well as using the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) criteria for trueness and precision. Observed trends and some benefits for the participants have been presented.

Od pewnego już czasu kontrola jakości znajduje się w centrum uwagi chemików analityków. Zapewnienie właściwej dla danego celu jakości wyników analiz jest niezbędne ze względu na szeroką gamę możliwych negatywnych skutków, jakie niosą ze sobą błędne i niemiarodajne pomiary. Sposobem na realizację tego celu jest wprowadzenie w laboratorium odpowiedniego systemu kontroli jakości. Ma to na celu umożliwienie stałego monitorowania miarodajności wyników badań analitycznych oraz etapu kalibracji. Jednym z najistotniejszych narzędzi służących temu monitorowaniu jest udział w różnego typu badaniach międzylaboratoryjnych.

From some time the quality control is present in the center of the attention of the analysts. Ensuring an appropriate quality of analitycal is indispensable because of the wide scale of possible negative effects which carry on incorrect and unreliable data. There is a method for this purpose realization through the suitable (adequate) system of quality control conduction. The purpose of such approach is to enable the constant (continuous) monitoring of the reliable analytical results and calibration step. The one of the most important instrument for this monitoring is participating in various types of interlaboratory comparisons.
