Sustainable soft competences development of software developers by communication skills training

Soft competencies are of great importance for software developers like designers, programmers, testers, and maintainers. These competencies are also important for software companies in team work, interaction with stakeholders, etc. The main problem is to determine in which way soft competencies should be developed. In this paper a sustainable soft competences development of software developers is proposed. The relation between competences are important in the approach, hence influence diagrams between competences should be determined. Based on our research and literature analysis a competence model is proposed suitable for IT companies. These communication skills have the largest influence on other skills. A training cycle for software developers is proposed, to reach the goal of sustainable competency development. The training solution is reviewed and analyzed.

This paper discusses intellectual capital as one of the key determinants of companies’ competitiveness and its future development. The purpose of this research is to identify the performance of intellectual capital measured by Value Added Intellectual Coefficient (VAIC™) in selected European companies, to empirically estimate the relationship between intellectual capital performance and overall performance of these companies, and examine the role of various intellectual capital components. Intellectual capital shows to have significant influence on ROE and employees’ productivity but the analysis casts doubt on the VAIC as a proper measure of intellectual capital, at least from the value perspective view.

Niniejszy artykuł omawia kapitał intelektualny jako jedną z kluczowych determinant konkurencyjności przedsiębiorstw i ich przyszłego rozwoju. Celem niniejszego badania jest określenie wpływu kapitału intelektualnego mierzonego poprzez współczynnik intelektualnej wartości dodanej (VAIC™) w wybranych europejskich przedsiębiorstwach, w celu empirycznego oszacowania zależności między wydajnością kapitału intelektualnego a ogólną produktywnością przedsiębiorstw oraz zbadania roli różnych składników kapitału intelektualnego. Kapitał intelektualny ma istotny wpływ na ROE oraz produktywność pracowników, ale przeprowadzona analiza rzuca cień wątpliwości na matodę VAIC jako właściwą miarę kapitału intelektualnego, przynajmniej z punktu widzenia wartości.

A practical problem of choosing a software developer is considered. This problem is investigated from a user’s viewpoint, i.e. it is assumed that the software which is needed should be not only reliable but as cheap as possible too. The purpose of the paper is to propose some formal way of determining software developer by formulating and solving the bicriterial optimization problem will both minimize the value of the number of software tasks which have incorrect realization during some time period and minimize the value of the software development cost. Some numerical example is presented to illustrate of practical usefulness of the method which is proposed. The exemplary bicriterial optimization problem is solved on the base of the general methodology of solving multicriteria optimization problems.

W artykule przedstawiono propozycję pewnego wskaźnika jakości programu, w konstrukcji którego uwzględniono warunki jego użytkowej eksploatacji. Dla zilustrowania przydatności skonstruowanego wskaźnika jakości programu w dalszej części artykułu sformułowano dwukryterialne zadanie wyboru wariantu produkcji programu, z kosztem produkcji i proponowanym wskaźnikiem jakości programu jako kryteriami składowymi.
