In recent years there has been increased interest in microbiological phenomena occurring during the exploration, exploitation of hydrocarbon deposits and storage of energy reserves. Excessive and uncontrolled development of microorganisms can cause microbiological contamination of a given medium and changes in the composition of these raw materials (bio-deterioration processes), which translate into tangible economic loss. The article discusses the types of antibacterial substances used in the oil and gas industry. It suggests ways to eliminate harmful microorganisms, as well as a mechanism of biocides action.
