Role and Factors of Solar Façades Shaping in Contemporary Architecture

The article deals with the issue of solar facades as the main external walls of a building, adapted to make use of solar energy. The aim of the article is to define the role of the facades and the factors that influence shaping thereof. The goal is of cognitive nature, whereas its implementation may contribute to strengthening the relationship between presumptions related to energy and architecture in the design of buildings. The need for the article results from the necessity to search for a possible balance between technical and humanistic spheres while shaping contemporary pro-ecological architecture, especially one aimed at receiving solar energy as a renewable energy source. In the article, both analytical and comparative methods are applied. The research was conducted on the example of four designs with solar facades of different characteristics, including two buildings planned by the author. The research results are observations that define relationship between the energy-related role of solar facades and urban, functional and aesthetic issues. These observations lead to the conclusion that the energy aspect, is not the only one to be considered while shaping solar facades in contemporary architecture. The solar facade combines both functional and artistic features.

W artykule omówiono wybrane koncepcje definiowania celów współczesnej architektury proekologicznej, wykazując znaczne zróżnicowanie postaw wobec problemu ekologii w architekturze. Ten wyraźny pluralizm celów jest wypadkową priorytetów stawianych budynkom i wynikiem akcentowania poszczególnych problemów ekologicznych z różną mocą. W artykule wykazano, iż współcześnie współistnieją dwie postawy: prośrodowiskowa i prohumanistyczna, przy czym w ich ramach zachodzą dalsze zróżnicowania. Zwrócono również uwagę na ewolucję celów proekologicznych w architekturze oraz zagrożenia, które pod wpływem wąskiego postrzegania problematyki mogą prowadzić do jej wypaczeń. Artykuł ma charakter poznawczy i oparty jest na analizie wspomnianych postaw. Ma na celu uporządkowanie wiedzy i obserwacji w tym zakresie. Autorzy uznają, iż świadome i przede wszystkim trafne zdefiniowanie celów proekologicznych jest fundamentem kształtowania architektury odpowiadającej ogólnej idei zrównoważonego rozwoju. Skłaniają się do wniosku, że współczesny model budynku proekologicznego powinien opierać się na zbalansowaniu celów prohumanistycznych i prośrodowiskowych.

This article discusses selected concepts for defining the goals of modern pro-ecological architecture. It highlights a significant diversity of attitudes towards the issue of ecology in architecture. This clear pluralism of goals results from the priorities given to buildings and is the effect of emphasizing individual ecological problems to a various extent. In the present article, it has been demonstrated that two attitudes coexist today: the pro-environmental one and pro-humanistic one, with further variations occurring within the two approaches. Attention was also paid to the evolution of ecological goals in architecture, as well as to threats that may lead to its distortions under the influence of a narrow perception of these issues. The article is cognitive and is based on the analysis of the abovementioned attitudes. It aims at the organization of the knowledge and observations in this area. The authors recognize that a conscious and, above all, the apposite definition of ecological goals provides a foundation for creating architecture in line with the general concept of sustainable development. The authors are inclined to conclude that the contemporary model of a pro-ecological building should be based on balancing pro-humanistic and pro-environmental goals.

W artykule przedstawiono, na wybranych przykładach, możliwości rozwoju współczesnej architektury proekologicznej, jako architektury przyszłości. W działaniach tych widoczny jest prośrodowiskowy sposób prowadzenia projektowania oraz stosowania pozytywnych ekologicznie rozwiązań technicznych i technologicznych, dotyczących obniżania nakładów finansowych potrzebnych do realizacji efektywnych energetycznie budynków.

This work presented foreseeable and acceptable the development of the contemporary architecture how future architecture. In this work presented selection contemporary examples of economical and ecological architecture. As architecture uses contemporaneous possibilities of technique, technology and science, it can be realized to a higher degree in harmony with the natural environment.

Podano definicję postmodernizmu. W architekturze postodernistycznej mozna wyróżnić kilka prądów. U podstaw jednego z nich stoi ekologia. W Polsce skala potrzeb z zakresu budownictwa mieszkaniowego jest bardzo duża. Realizacja działań zmierzających do zaspokojenia tych potrzeb powinna się odbywać z uwzględnieniem zasad wypływających z przyjęcia niskoenergetycznego standardu kształtowania obiektów budowlanych.

Definition of post-modern style in architecture was given. Post-modern style in architecture has several directions. Ecology is grounds of one of this directions. In Poland scale of housing needs is very large. Technical method of realization in housing must meet this demand. This technical method has to take into consideration low consumption of energy. This principles are basic problem in shaping of housing in Poland now a days.
