Wolfram należy do metali strategicznych w gospodarce. Pod względem wielkości światowej produkcji górniczej plasuje się pod koniec drugiej dziesiątki, a pod względem ceny i wartości produkcji zajmuje jeszcze bardziej odległe miejsce. Jest metalem przejściowym o najwyższej temperaturze topienia, co determinuje spektrum jego zastosowań. Stosowany jest jako dodatek stopowy do wysokogatunkowych stali oraz ze względu na nadzwyczajną twardość służy do wyrobu materiałów ściernych i narzędzi tnących. Wiek XXI to okres zauważalnych przeobrażeń w strukturze ilościowej zaopatrzenia oraz stabilności głównych kierunków dostaw surowców pierwotnych wolframu. Zwraca uwagę bezwzględnie dominująca pozycja Chin. W artykule omówiono ponadto pierwotne źródła wolframu (złoża i zasoby), wskazano na zasoby tego metalu w Polsce. Oceniono podstawowe czynniki decydujące o koniunkturze na rynku, możliwości substytucji oraz kształtowanie się cen. Scharakteryzowano gospodarkę surowcami wolframu w Polsce.

Tungsten belongs to the strategic metals in the economy. In terms of the volume of the world mine production it is at the end of the second ten, and in terms of price and value of production it occupies an even more distant place. Tungsten is a transition metal with the highest melting temperature, which determines the spectrum of its applications. It is used as an alloy additive for high-grade steel and because of the extraordinary hardness it is used for the production of abrasive materials and cutting tools. The 21st century is a period of noticeable changes in the supply structure and stability of the main primary tungsten delivery directions. The strictly dominant position of China is noteworthy. In the paper sources of primary tungsten raw-materials (mineral deposits and its reserves) as well as tungsten resources in Poland were discussed. The most important factors determining the economic situation on the market, substitution possibilities and the price evolution were assessed. The economy of tungsten raw materials in Poland has also been characterized.

Magnez należy do najlżejszych metali konstrukcyjnych. Ta unikatowa właściwość determinuje szerokie spektrum zastosowań metalu, np. w branży samochodowej czy lotnictwie. W wieku XXI miały miejsce istotne zmiany struktury zaopatrzenia oraz zużycia magnezu metalicznego, odnotowano także wysoki przyrost globalnych zdolności produkcyjnych. Ceny metalu podlegały często presji nadpodaży oraz były regulowane barierami celnymi (np. na rynku amerykańskim). W latach 2008-2009 rynek magnezu dotknięty został kryzysem, niemniej obecne przesłanki, pomimo niektórych słabych stron rynku, wskazuję na przezwyciężenie stagnacji. W artykule wskazano na czynniki decydujące o koniunkturze na rynku magnezu z początkiem XXI w. oraz omówiono gospodarkę tym surowcem w Polsce.

Magnesium is the lightest of commonly used structural metals. This uniąue property determines a wide range of metal applications eg: in the automotive or aerospace industry. In the XXI century, significant changes in the structure of supply and consumption of magnesium metal had place. A high growth in global production capacity has been also recorded. Metalprices remained under the influence of oversupply and they have been strongly regulated by the market tariff barriers in the US. In the 2008-2009 magnesium market has been affected by the economic crisis, but the current euidences, despite some weaknesses of the market, indicate the stagnation overcoming.ln the paper the most important factors determining the economic situation on the magnesium market at the beginning of the XXI have been pointed and the economy of magnesium in Poland has been discussed.
