The author summarises Barack Obama's presidency, on the one hand showing American citizens’ hopes, on the other financial crisis affecting the USA particularly gravely. In the further part of the article, the author characterises President Obama’s package of proposals in the area of security, for which operations in Iraq and Afghanistan are of key importance. He stresses that the election of the new president met great expectations for a breakthrough in the security area not only in the US but in the world as well. These analyses make the bases for the evaluation of Barack Obama's first nine-month presidency and achievements in foreign policy, especially in the area of strengthening not perfect relations with the European Union. In the final part of the article, the author carries out a synthetic recapitulation of these evaluations from Poland's point of view.
