Autor prezentuje osobisty, często krytyczny obraz trzech miast - najlepiej znanych mu, szczególnie ulubionych i bliskich. Pomimo znajomości dziesiątek najbardziej renomowanych miast w świecie, autor wybrał przykłady maksymalnie rodzime, z którymi był i jest personalnie związany. Podlegały one w rodowodzie historycznym - poprzez tok dziejów - dramatycznym wydarzeniom. Pod względem kreacji przestrzennych ulegały - także obecnie - płynnym, hybrydowym, ambiwalentnym, często kontrowersyjnym przemianom. Zostały zarazem potraktowane domyślnie, jako swoiste, subiektywnie ujęte modele miast w ogóle - także ich losu i ewolucji. Autor uznaje miasto jako - być może - najznakomitszy wyraz ludzkiej kultury i cywilizacji.

The author paints a personal and often critical image of three cities - those, which he is the most familiar with and which are particularly dear and close to him. Despite being familiar with tens of the most renowned cities in the world, the author has selected fully familial examples, which he has had and continues to have personal ties. Throughout their histories, they have been subjected to dramatic events. In terms of spatial creation, they underwent - and continue to undergo-fluid, hybrid, ambivalent and often controversial transformation. They have also been treated implicitly, as subjectively-presented models of cities in general - as well as of their fate and evolution. The author considers the city to be - perhaps - the greatest expression of human culture and civilisation.

The issues raised in this elaboration concerning the national security system of the Republic of Poland serve as a proposal and illustrate the understanding of the system in a different manner than it is usually assumed. „The basis of the national security structure (system) is the civil and military organization of national protection and defence as an element of national security – an internally coordinated set of elements of the master management subsystem and detailed functional executive subsystems, defined by the relations of cooperation and substitution, for the protection and defence of the vital interests of national security – the security of the state as a political institution and of the society27”. Hence, the elaboration presents two approaches understood as a voice in the discussion that will determine the direction of further research on the system as a future target model. The first model is a qualitatively new approach and from a theoretical point of view it is innovative, yet presents the approach in a fairly logical manner. The second puts a strong emphasis on modernizing the existing model and its analytical content should be taken into account. The elaboration was developed under the project "The National Security System of the Republic of Poland" supervised by prof. W. Kitler, implemented in the field of state defence and security – funded by the National Centre for Research and Development – contract nr DOBR/0076/R/ID1/2012/03 dated 18.12.2012, project registration number: O ROB/0076/03/001.

Some aspects of discounting of infinite streams of economic quantities (consumption, saving, utility) are considered. The main points of the paper may be summarized as follows. The philosophy of discounting concerns methods of evaluation and/or comparison of multi-period phenomena and processes. The techniques applied (numerical, analytical) may equalize the gravity of subsequent generations or privilege certain generations rather than other ones. They can – to some extent – influence quality of life and the chances of survival in future generations. These (quite natural) connections between discounting and intergenerational justice and sustainability have been pointed out. Systems of axioms for “ethical” and “sustainable” preferences are presented, together with some related (sub)disciplines. Inspirations derived mainly from psychology suggest the modification of the geometric discounting paradigm by slowing down the convergence of discount factors to zero. It should be pointed out that such “heavy tailed” discounting has proved to be useful (and become strongly recommended) for evaluation of a variety of long-time horizon undertakings. Some examples of non-classical discounting rules are given. Finally, the author’s proposal of modeling the duration of the world as a Poisson random variable has been formulated.

Jedność dwuczłonu przedstawienie-konstrukcja określa kulturę projektu, który powinien nie tylko rozwiązywać kwestie funkcjonalne, ale poszukiwać istoty konstrukcji jako procesu formalnego badając relację pomiędzy ideą formy a rezultatem.

Article is a sort of a mission statement to bring again architecture and the city in the center of the debate, as a place for ideas and art. In the relationship between the project and the techniques you can find a new and antique condition of the scientific research in architecture. The unity depiction-construction defines a culture of the project which should not only solve functional issues, but investigates the essence of construction as a formal process, as a necessary path studying the relationships between an idea of form and its achievement.

Istota czasu jest określona w sposób zwięzły, lecz komunikatywny listą opisową, której składnikami jest siedem własności przedmiotowych: chwila, cykl, interwał czasowy, okres, upływ czasu, tempo upływu czasu, teraźniejszość oraz cztery własności funkcjonalne: indeks temporalny, przeszłość, przyszłość i równoczesność zdarzeń. W Imperium Inków w Andach budowano drogi z bloków kamiennych, które nestety ułatwiły hiszpańskim zdobywcom walkę z Indianami i które w dużej części przetrwały do dziś. Obecnie łączna długość dróg w Peru wynosi około 70 tys. km, w tym 9 tys. km dróg twardych. Najważniejszą drogą jest "autostrada" panamerykańska biegnąca wzdłuż Pacyfiku przez tereny pustynne. Jest to płatna droga dwupasowa, miejscami trzypasowa. Wysokość opłat wynosi 2,5 zł za odcinek 30-50 km.

In Ink Empire roads in Ands were constructed of stone blocks, which survived in large parts until today. They, unfortunately, facilitated fights of Spanish conquerors with Indians. Presently, total length of roads in Peru is approximately 70 thousand km including 9 thousand km of paved roads. Most important is Panamerican Motorway located along Pacific coast through desert area. This is two-lane, locally three-lane, road. The toll is 2,5 PLN for the section of 30-50 km.

The International System of Units has been in use for many years, but despite its general acceptance, some errors or mistakes in its practical use can still be encountered. Therefore, it seems to be purposeful to recall the basics of the System indicating revisions and modifications introduced in recent years, so as to use SI according to the concepts of its initiators, in a manner fully correct and clear for the scientific and economic community.
