Analysis of selected methodological problems regarding the examination of traffic events at road intersections

The planning of statistical examining of population within the scope of undesirable events at road intersections with three-colour traffic lights has been discussed. In particular, the problems have been raised that are related to the analysing how the installation of countdown timers showing the time left to a change in the traffic lights signal affects the traffic flow. Attention has been focused on selected research process elements that concern the preliminary works, examination proper, and statistical inference, without describing the types and engineering designs of the displays used and without dealing with the legal aspects. Selected literature items related to the subject matter touched upon have been analysed, with pointing out the practices that either might be desirable or might arouse some reservations. In the part concerning the preliminary works, such issues as the sample selection method, sample size, and selection of the variables under analysis have been discussed. As regards the examination proper, some elements of the information acquisition process have been considered in both the subject-related and object-related aspects. When discussing the statistical inference, some limitations have been pointed out that affect the conclusions drawn from the examination of statistically non-representative samples and some acceptable methods of the analysis of empirical data have been mentioned. The article has been concluded with a brief recapitulation.

W opracowaniu przedstawiono metodę oceny niezawodności wybranej klasy obiektów pojedynczych. W przypadku analizowanych obiektów węzły tribologiczne stanowić mogą jedno z najsłabszych ogniw w łańcuchu działania. Uzyskanie przez pojedynczy złożony obiekt techniczny wymaganego poziomu niezawodności w fazie wstępnej eksploatacji, przy wymuszeniach eksploatacyjnych, powinno być efektem dokonywanych zmian modernizacyjnych. Podlegające szybszemu, niż prognozowanie, zużyciu i starzeniu węzły tarciowe powinny być modernizowane w procesach konstrukcyjno-technologicznych odpowiednio do warunków rzeczywistej ich eksploatacji. Do rozwiązania problemu zastosowano analizę systemową oraz niektóre podane modele. Zaproponowany w rozwiązaniu model ocenowo-decyzyjny umożliwia: - ocenę rozwiązania projektowego, zwłaszcza w zakresie węzłów tribologicznych podlegających przyspieszonemu zużyciu, w rzeczywistych warunkach eksploatacyjnych, - dokonywanie miarodajnych ocen każdego ze zrealizowanych przedsięwzięć modernizacyjnych, w przypadku gdy niezawodność obiektu jest niższa od wymagań projektowych. Wypracowanie metod racjonalnych oddziaływań w zakresie konstrukcji i technologii wytwarzania, przy równoczesnym prowadzeniu ukierunkowanych działań modernizacyjnych, powinno prowadzić do poprawy niezawodności obiektu w czasie jego wstępnej eksploatacji. W wyniku przeprowadzonych badań i wprowadzonych zmian modernizacyjnych badany obiekt powinien osiągnąć maksymalnie możliwy lub odpowiadający wymaganiom projektowym poziom niezawodności, przy równoczesnym zapewnieniu maksymalnej niezawodności węzłów tribologicznych.

In the paper is presented the method of reliability estimation of the selected class of single objects. In the case of analyzed objects there are tribological pairs that have to make one of weakest links in the operational chain. The required level of reliability in the preliminary stage of work with operational forces has to be obtained to modernization changes. Friction pairs which are ageing more quickly then predicted have to be modernized in the design-technological processes, suitably to the real operational condition. In solving of the problem have been applied the analysis system and some given models. The proposed decision-estimation model enables: - estimation of the design, particularly in the real operational condition in the range of tribological pairs which have been wearing in accelerated mode, - making the reliable estimation of the realized modernization actions for the case when reliability of an object is lower then design demands. Development of rational methods of effecting on design and manufacturing technology with parallel modernization actions has to result in improvement of the reliability of the object in its preliminary stage of operation. The result of investigation and modernization changes shell be the maximum possible or the adequate to demands reliability level and maximum reliability of tribological pairs.
