In the case of dispersed power generation, such as renewable energy sources (RES), the investment risks are much higher than for fossil fuels. Higher are also the specific investment costs per MWel of installed power capacity. Therefore, the pre-investment phase for such projects should be elaborated with due diligence. In particular it refers to emerging market technologies, where there has been little or no record of their development in the past. Despite various support schemes, a professional feasibility study is not to be afforded by smaller investors. Therefore, other simplified tools must be made available for them, especially in the pre-investment phase. In this article agricultural biogas plants (ABP) were chosen to exemplify the complexity of the technoeconomic evaluation of dispersed generation in the pre-feasibility phase.

Przedstawiono propozycje wykorzystania narzędzi GIS do wstępnej oceny możliwości zagospodarowania złoża. Temat omówiono na przykładzie złoża węgla brunatnego "Złoczew", dla którego w ramach założeń projektowych przyjęto eksploatację metodą odkrywkową. Prace analityczne i projektowe przeprowadzono w oparciu o oprogramowanie firmy ESRI (Arclnfo) oraz firmy Bentley (MicroStation, InRoads, GeoGraphics). W poszczególnych etapach oceny projektu określono rodzaj i zakres analiz przestrzennych, które wykonano na bazie dostępnych danych analogowych i numerycznych. Na podstawie uzyskanych wyników oceniono funkcjonalność i przydatność narzędzi GIS w procesie decyzyjnym.

Proposals of using GIS instruments in prefeasibility study concerning the deposit management are presented in the paper. The issue is described on the example of Zloczew lignite deposit, which is planned to be mined through the open pit. Analytic and design works were carried out using ESRI (Arclnfo) and Bentley's (MicroStation, InRoads, GeoGraphics) software. Type and scope of spatial analysis were determined for each phase of project assessment. The analysis were made using available analog and numerical data. The results allowed to assess the functionality and usefulness of GIS instruments in decision process.
