The article comprises the review of currently binding Polish and foreign regulations concerning the principles of people’s exposure to electromagnetic radiation. It is difficult to comprehend the legal system relating to the subject of the article unless one strictly deals with the problems of protection against electromagnetic not-ionising radiation. Legal acts relating to this issue cover the last 20 years. Frequently the newer regulations do not cancel the old ones, thus introducing legal confusion in the system. Moreover, the regulations are incomplete, do not cover all frequencies, do not take into consideration numerous phenomena (biological effects for certain range of intensity and frequency, deformation of the field by organisms, information influence). The regulations differ both in contents and in legal force in particular countries. Generally, the figures for liminal values are similar in different countries, except these countries where extremely low values are suggested. The principles of people’s exposure to electromagnetic exposure conditions are mainly limited to issuing liminal values for selective protection zones or giving out permissible time of staying in fields of given intensity. Apart from this, the division into environmental (public) and professional regulations is introduced.
