This study investigated the multifaceted relationship between resilience engineering practices, work motivation factors, health, safety, and environment (HSE) management to achieve employee productivity within a mining company in South Kalimantan, Indonesia. Employing structural equation modelling (SEM) on data from 178 workers, intriguing results are diverged from established research. While resilience engineering practices and work motivation factors significantly enhanced productivity, robust HSE management demonstrated a surprisingly insignificant association. This unexpected finding necessitates a closer examination of the unique context of Indonesian mining culture and HSE implementation practices. Several potential explanations emerge, including ingrained communal responsibility for safety, limited applicability of imported frameworks, prioritisation of immediate needs over long-term safety due to competitive pressures, and possible erosion of trust in bureaucratic systems. These factors highlight the need to consider cultural nuances and industry challenges when designing effective HSE interventions. Moving forward, research and practice must prioritise developing culturally sensitive HSE practices, fostering trust and employee engagement, bridging the gap between formal systems and daily realities, and gathering qualitative data to understand employee perspectives. By addressing these considerations, future interventions can effectively align HSE efforts with employee productivity, contributing to a safer, more productive, culturally relevant work environment for Indonesian miners.

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to compare the management practices of American, German and Polish enterprises in the cross-section of business objectives analysed. Design/methodology/approach: The paper assumes that the differences in setting business objectives result from the differences in corporate governance models. The study used the Kruskal-Wallis One-way Analysis of Variance by Ranks and multiple comparisons of mean ranks for all samples. Findings: The study found that some of the management practices of German, Polish and American enterprises differed across business objectives. However, differences in management practices did not always coincide with differences in corporate governance models. The research shows that corporate governance institutions do not always explain existing differences in management practices, and that the setting of business objectives also depends on other factors. Originality/value: The conducted research enriches the literature in the area of strategic management by issues concerning the determinants of setting business goals in enterprises.

This article aims to explore the differences in the practices and perceptions of the diversity strategies in Saudi private organizations. It draws on quantitative analysis and data were collected through a convenient sampling method. The findings suggest that Saudi organizations pay great attention to preventing harassment, encouraging ethical behavior, and creating a diverse working environment, while the tested hypotheses confirmed that the diversity strategies practiced are significantly different from what they must practice. The sample organizations did not practice strategies such as providing work and family benefits, preventing unfair discrimination, creating a transparent working environment, providing training and development opportunities, supporting social events, or respecting employee opinion. The findings indicate that Saudi organizations must adopt strategies based on employees’ perceptions.

Given the importance of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in sustained development of a society, there is an increasing impetus on entrepreneurs to adopt CSR practices. Since Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) make up to 90% of the UAE’s market, this study was conducted to explore their understanding and practices of CSR. The study included both primary and secondary sources for collection of relevant data including extensive literature review and a survey employing an elaborate questionnaire and interviews with a number of SMEs across the UAE. The study highlighted that although there is a general awareness about CSR practices amongst the SMEs, their understanding of corporate social responsibility varies quite widely because of an ambivalent definition of CSR. There is a need for a conscious alignment of company policies with strategies conducive to efficient and effective implementation of CSR objectives for sustainable development. Although most SMEs expressed the intent and desire to make a better contribution to the society, they felt the need for better human resources and capital.

Biorąc pod uwagę znaczenie społecznej odpowiedzialności biznesu (CSR) w trwałym rozwoju społeczeństwa, przedsiębiorcy coraz częściej zachęcają do stosowania praktyk CSR. Ponieważ małe i średnie przedsiębiorstwa (MŚP) stanowią 90% rynku ZEA, badanie to zostało przeprowadzone w celu zbadania ich praktyk w obszarze CSR. Istnieje potrzeba świadomego dostosowania polityk firmy do strategii sprzyjających skutecznej i efektywnej realizacji celów CSR w zakresie zrównoważonego rozwoju. Chociaż większość MŚP wyraziła zamiar i chęć wniesienia większego wkładu do społeczeństwa, odczuwały potrzebę większego zaangażowania zasobów ludzkich i kapitału w tym zakresie.

Content available Lean in the supply chain: a literature review
EN
"Lean" is a management philosophy that enhances customer value through waste elimination and continuous improvement in a system, by applying lean principles, practices and techniques. The focus on lean implementations and research had been on a single company without extension to the entire supply chain. When the lean concept is implemented across the entire supply chain, however, it is referred to as a lean supply chain. The purpose of this paper is to review literature on lean in the supply chain and identify research trends and issues within the field. The paper involves a comprehensive review of articles on lean in the supply chain using structured content analysis. The reviewed articles were classified based on the basic characteristics and contextual issues of the articles. The researchers in the field agree that the identified benefits of lean in the supply chain, which include reduced cost, improved quality, faster delivery and flexibility, are linked to the implementation of certain lean principles, practices and techniques in the supply chain. Most of the reviewed articles are case studies, and evidence for the benefits of lean in the supply chain is anecdotal. While the empirical work done in the field is encouraging, quantitative studies to substantiate the claims for the efficiency of lean in the supply chain are lacking. In the reviewed articles, the manufacturing sector received much attention, while the service sector received little attention from researchers in the field. It was generally suggested that the supply chain members, suppliers and manufacturers should be considered in the implementation of lean in the supply chain, while the inclusion of distributors and end customers was not discussed in detail in many of the reviewed articles.
