In the paper tribological problems with stamping of the titanium sheets are discussed. Titanium and its alloys, thanks to its unique properties (low density, high mechanical strength, good corrosion resistance and biocompatibility) seems to be one of the most applied materials both in technology and medicine. Unfortunately, the tribological properties of the titanium are very poor, so its forming and application for the highly loaded frictional pairs are limited. A decrease in frictional resistance and the resulting decrease in tool wear are the obvious role of the technological lubricant during all sheet metal forming processes. Moreover, a lubricant layer being between the tool and shaped material should have a suitable thickness to ensure the effective separation of the frictional surfaces, especially when such materials as titanium sheets are formed. Titanium and its alloys are especially susceptible to the creation of "build-ups" on the tool surface. In consequence local scratches and dents, which are impossible to remove in the following treatments, occur on a product surface. It is possible to prevent or eliminate this phenomenon by using proper lubricants or antiadhesive layers. The test results of the frictional coefficients for some technological lubricants and antiadhesive layers have been given. Frictional coefficients have been determined based on the "strip drawing" test. The sheet strips have been drawn between two flat jaws, which had been made from NC6 tool steel. The jaws were exposed to the following treatments: grinding and polishing, chromium plating, nitrogen titanizing and hard surfacing with aluminium bronze. Tests have been carried out for the samples of uncovered titanium sheet and anodised titanium sheet. Tests were carried out with different lubricants and in dry conditions. Selection of both the technological lubricants and antiadhesive layers for the sheet metal forming processes should take into consideration the type of the shaped material. According to the test results the lubricant with M0S2 appeared to be the best for the stamping process of the titanium sheets. The use of antiwear layers such as: Cr or aluminium bronzes showed the best antiadhesive properties among the tested layers.
