W artykule poruszony jest problem trwałości łożysk garnkowych. Omówiono budowę oraz zwrócono uwagę na cechy konstrukcyjne wpływające negatywnie na trwałość tego typu łożysk. Wykazano, że zaprojektowanie łożyska garnkowego zgodnie z obowiązującą normą europejską EN-1337 może nie zapewniać jego wieloletniej bezproblemowej eksploatacji. Artykuł uzupełnia krótki przegląd aktualnych przepisów i zaleceń dotyczących zastosowań i kontroli łożysk garnkowych w drogowych i kolejowych obiektach mostowych.

The article discusses the durability problem of pot bearings. Their construction is described and attention is paid to the structural features that negatively affect the durability of this type of bearings. Examples of pot bearings failures are given and the most common causes of these failures are listed. In short analyses it has been shown that the design of a pot bearing according to the applicable European standard EN-1337 does not provide many years of its trouble-free use, e.g. in the case of very heavy traffic with heavy vehicles or rolling stock. The article is supplemented by a brief overview of current regulations and recommendations detailing information on the application and inspection of pot bearings in road and rail bridges.

Począwszy od lat 50. i 60. ubiegłego wieku zaczęto stosować w budownictwie mostowym nowatorskie rozwiązania łożysk. W artykule opisano historię rozwoju konstrukcji oraz wdrażania łożysk garnkowych, soczewkowych za granicą i w Polsce, a także łożysk specjalnych takich jak blokujące i prowadzące. W kraju wiodącym ośrodkiem badawczym w tej dziedzinie był Instytut Badawczy Dróg i Mostów.

Innovative bearing designs application in bridge construction started at 50-ies and 60-ies of the last century. In the paper a history of pot and spherical with PTFE bearings design and development in abroad and in Poland as well as special bearings as guided and restraints bearings was described. In our country the Road and Bridge Research Institute was leading research center in this field.
