W przedstawionej pracy, powstałej na podstawie rozprawy doktorskiej autora, opisano pewne szczególne przestrzenne ucieleśnienia granicy, będące egzemplifikacjami niezmiennika zjawiska architektury monumentalnej, które w swej archetypowej postaci - określić można jako mobilne i amobilne manifestacje wertykalizmu. Wyłoniły się one zapewne w efekcie rewolucji neolitycznej i każda z nich odwołuje się do wzorca przestrzeni symbolicznej wykształconej wówczas zintemalizowanej struktury wyobrażeniowej rzeczywistości, wedle której umysł mitologiczny, a w konsekwencji zbiorowości mitopoetyckie nadawały strukturę światu. Efektem owej rewolucji oraz uwidocznienia się owego wzorca jest wykształcenie się szczególnej struktury przestrzeni określanej przez A. Leroi-Gourhana jako espace rayonant - przestrzeń promienista. Oś pionowa - konstytutywny fundament wzorca przestrzeni promienistej, a w ślad za tym owych manifestacji - ustanawia szczególny porządek przestrzeni, gdyż punkt, w którym ona wyrasta, określa archetyp miejsca i jednocześnie środek świata-jego centrum.

The aim of the presented work, based on the author's doctoral dissertation24, is to portray a fragment of his opinions concerning the phenomenon of monumental architecture, whose archetypal sources constitute one of the most primeval human experiences in the world, and following this - of space, and in consequence - with perception and conceptualization of the latter. Some archetypal materializations of the cosmic axis were described in this work, which - named by the author as mobile and immobile manifestations of verticalism, make up a certain particular spatial embodiment of the category of the border. This category in the author's opinion sets up an irreducible essence of the phenomenon of monumental architecture - its invariant. Manifestations of verticalism, in the understanding of the author, are most primitive and, simultaneously, special expressions of that phenomenon. Their peculiarity consists, among others, in reflecting some constitutive components of the pattern of symbolic space - being a symbolic tool of conceptualization of the world of a mythopoetic mind. That archetypal components, organizing the structure of the pattern of symbolic space are, first of all -the cosmic axis, as well as a special derivative of it - the center, which sets up a spatial border between the worlds, possessing a geometrical character of a point in space. In succession the latter constitutes the archetype of the place. The investigative method which the author has applied, and which enabled him to create a category of the aforementioned manifestations, is, first of all - structuralism and Claude Lévi-Strauss's concept of the mythopoetic mind. The author has also referred to investigations of: Vladimir Toporów, Edmund Leach and Claude Lévi-Strauss whose accomplishments are located in the field of structuralistically oriented anthropology of cultures and semiotics. Another source of information the author has referred to, are researches in the field of studies of religions, sociology of religion, theory of architecture, and also, cogni-tive intuitions of their authors: Stefan Czarnowski, Jan Assmann, Mircea Eliade, Siegfried Giedion, Erik Homung and others as quoted in the text. Simultaneously, the author would like to say, that he felt compelled to describe some of the key categories necessary in the presented work, in the footnotes.
