Erosion induced by solid particle impingement is a very common wear mechanism in turbomachinery and Computational Fluid Dynamics is one of the most widely used tools for its prediction. In this article, erosion is modelled in one of the channels of a centrifugal pump using OpenFOAM®, which is an Open Source CFD package. A review of some of the most commonly used erosion models is carried out in an Eulerian-Lagrangian frame along with a comparative study of the erosion rates obtained with each model. Results yielded some disparities between models due to the different factors taken into consideration. The mesh is then deformed to obtain the resulting eroded geometry.

For the flow model assumed, the methodology of determination and analysis of flow and power consumption characteristics of the designed pump, based on the initial data for designing, which is the flow characteristics described by a fourth order polynomial, has been presented. The equations that relate individual characteristic curves with the main dimensions of the impeller and the relationships and dependencies that decide about the characteristics shape and principal properties have been shown as well.

The sequence of typical models in turbomachinery: 1D, 2D and 3D is presented in the paper. For the one-dimensional model a diagram of energy losses is shown for the pump process. The 2D model is considered as axisymmetrical and the solution of inverse problem has been carried out. Model 3D The 3D model has been used to investigate some details of the flow pattern in rotor designed for a diagonal pump.

Przedstawiono techniki badania parametrów lokalnych cieczy stosowane w Zespole Pomp Przepływowych IMP PŁ bazujące głównie na sondach ciśnienia różnych typów. Opisano budowę specjalnej dwuotworkowej sondy dla przepływów przestrzennych oraz jednootworkowej sondy do pomiarów w pobliżu ścianki. Możliwości danej techniki zilustrowano przykładowymi rezultatami badań.

Techniques of the local liquids parameters investigation used in Group of Turbopumps of Institute of Turbomachinery based on the different types of pressure probes are described. The construction and the way of measurement with special two-hole probe and the one-hole wall probe are presented. Examples of the results reached by discussed techniques are shown . All probes are calibrated in air-tunnel.
