Ultrasonic measurements of elastic wave velocities were performed for carbonate rock samples originating from fore-sudetic monocline. Four different types of ultrasonic equipment produced in Poland were used. The CT-3 equipment exhibiting the highest pulse intensity is the most suitable for the measurements of longitudinal wave velocities in massive porous samples. The most accurate measurements of longitudinal wave velocities can be done on polished rock samples when the MT-540 equipment is used. The UMT-01equipment allows the measurements of both longitudinal and shear wave velocities. The UZP-1 equipment is more accurate tool for measurements of both longitudinal and shear wave velocities but only in case of small samples of low porosity. The comparison of longitudinal wave propagation velocities determined for carbonate rocks indicates that the highest values are observed in case of dolomite, and are in the range from 2860 m/s to 6408 m/s. In case of limestone the measured longitudinal wave propagation velocities were in range from 2422 m/s to 5337 m/s. The determined shear wave velocities were also higher in case of dolomite samples: from 1858 m/s to 3473 m/s. In case of limestone samples these values were lower, in the range from 1523 m/s to 3158 m/s.
