Over the last decade, the brewing revolution has shown a new face to brewing. Besides the large-scale production, small-scale, artisanal hand crafted, and home breweries have also become important and relevant. This change has forced large-scale companies to change their usual methods and brew other types of recipes as well.One of the most popular ALE-type beers is the Indian Pale Ale (IPA), which gives beer a fruity-citrus flavour due to its hop content. It is especially popular with novice brewers as it has no enormous machine requirements compared to LAGER-type beers.In the study, we made our already known and popular recipe, a New England IPA, in a 30-litre brewing pot. This type requires only one type of malt; however, we added barley flakes, oat flakes, and wheat flakes to enhance the flavour. Hops are very dominant in the taste of this type of beer, five of which were used during brewing and later at “dry hopping” during fermentation.Sampling was performed every minute during mashing, brewing, hopping, cooling, and yeasting with a calibrated NIX-type measuring device with repetition to avoid measurement errors. During the fermentation stage, the colour change was observed by daily sampling. The study aims to separate the stages of brewing by colour and identify the stages of the already known biological and chemical activities by colour. This study is the first part of a more extended series of experiments where we will perform similar experiments on several types of beer (LAGER, STOUT, APA, WHEAT, RED, etc.). We would also like to know about the possible effect of carbonisation on colour, the possible effect of storage in a bottle on colour, and possible deviations from a similar decoction.

This study presents an assessment of the effects of usage time for polypropylene (PP) experimental samples including those dyed with pigments of different UV resistance. A standard double cavity mold was used to create the samples by injection molding. Selected indices were analyzed in terms of color change (UV resistance of pigments), and UV radiation resistance of a PP polymer medium. The experiment revealed a significant impact of the accepted usage time and the type of dye concentrates on the indices characterizing the sample color change (CIELab) and a change in the structure and state of the PP medium surface.

Oceniono wpływ czasu użytkowania próbek PP, w tym barwionych pigmentami o różnej odporności na UV, na wybrane wskaźniki użytkowe. Próbki doświadczalne wytworzono metodą wtryskiwania z zastosowaniem standardowej dwugniazdowej formy badawczej. Analizę wybranych wskaźników barwionych próbek przeprowadzono na podstawie: wyznaczonej zmiany barwy (odporność na UV pigmentów), a także odporności na promieniowanie UV nośnika polimerowego (PP). Wykazano istotny wpływ przyjętego w programie badań czasu użytkowania oraz rodzaju koncentratów barwiących na wartości wskaźników charakteryzujących barwę próbek (CIELab), a także strukturę i stan powierzchni tworzywa użytego jako nośnik (PP).

Purpose: Bleaching agents are commonly used to make the natural dentition look more attractive. Currently, in addition to products from reputable manufacturers, products of not fully known origin are available for purchase. The aim of the study was to investigate whether products of this type have a destructive influence on the mechanical and aesthetic properties of the dental restorative nanocomposite. Design/methodology/approach: Four bleaching agents were used, two recognized brands, and two products were purchased from Chinese websites (their manufacturer is unknown). Two gels and two types of whitening strips were used. One composite nanomaterial was used. Microhardness, diametral tensile strength,, compressive strength and colour measurements were tested. Findings: For some bleaching agents, studies have shown a relatively small effect on mechanical properties and an acceptable effect on colour changes. Regardless of the observed changes, the use of bleaching agents qualified for the experiment should be considered safe for composites. Research limitations/implications: The number of blenching agents used as well as dental composites in this study was limited. In future studies, increasing the number of cycles in the bleaching process should be considered. Practical implications: A popular method of improving the aesthetic properties of teeth is the use of a wide range of blenching agents. Most patients who use teeth whitening procedures are also users of composite fillings. The use of bleaching agents may have a different effect on the mechanical and aesthetic restorative composites. For economic reasons, many people decide to import cheap bleaching agents of unknown or dubious origin via Internet services to perform the bleaching process on their own. In this study, it was investigated whether products of this type have an influence on the mechanical and aesthetic properties of the dental restorative nanocomposite. Originality/value: Until now, no comparison of the safety of the use of bleaching agents of recognized manufacturers and of unknown origin in terms of the effect on composite materials has been presented, despite their high social importance.

Przedstawiono oryginalną metodę przygotowywania barwnych próbek z polietylenu, wykorzystaną do oceny zmiany barwy w skali CIELab, w wyniku zmieszania wybranych barwników. Do weryfikacji i oceny zmienności barwy serii próbek PE z udziałem czterech pigmentów (R, G, B, Y) wykorzystano spektrofotometr Cary 5000 rejestrujący widma odbiciowe odzwierciedlające efekt wzajemnego mieszania stosowanych w badaniach koncentratów barwiących.

The paper presents the original method for the preparation of polyethylene samples used to assess the color change in the CIELab scale, by using a mixture of selected dyes. In order to verify and evaluate the color variability of a series of PE samples with four pigments (magenta, blue, green, yellow), the Cary 5000 spectrophotometer was used for recording reflectance spectra of individual samples demonstrating the effect of mutual mixing of the dyeing concentrates used in the study.
