Calculations of Pitch at Flight for Mortar Projectiles

In this article, two different point mass model methods for pitch angle calculations for fin stabilized projectiles were shown and analyzed. The first method originates from the Modified Point Mass Model and was presented by McCoy. Comparison of the calculated pitch angles with the 5-degrees-of-freedom external ballistic model results has shown insufficient accuracy of the CRAWFISH-AMMUNITION shooting parameters range. Therefore, the authors presented their own method for pitch angle calculations. Comparison of methods at the wide range of entry parameters was made and has shown higher accuracy of the method developed by the authors of this article.
