The beauty and a contemporary architecture are the terms of wide importance. Beauty has been creating for centuries, becomes a background for some new stylistics of next ages. A contemporary architecture is not a separate idea as well, because it involves with ancient epochs, deriving a number of experiences from them. Contemporary sacred architecture of Krakow moves among avant.garde and traditionalism, looking for a beauty as an expression of a compromise between taking a position of existing monumental works and a need of creating of a new esthetics.

The possibility of perceiving the reality is one of the manifestations of the relationship between the light and our life. It is the light that awakes a whole spectrum of emotions. Light: revealing, dematerializing form, emphasizing materials, unifying or separating space, creating a focus, developing a hierarchy. It can be contemplative, festive, theatrical, metaphorical and symbolic. The art of illumination of architectural objects, which enables us to determine the duration of the light layer, seems to be a response of architectural art to the requirements of MTV civilization. We can determine two basic groups of factors influencing the reception of this art: external, i.e. architectural, technical, material and internal: physiological and psychological. Each of the factors participates in the reception and interpretation of visual scene created by artificial light. It is pivotal to define the aim of illumination. It can be: security, information and advertisement, identification of the place, creation of a single informative sign. The intended designing aims can be achieved by different lightening methods: ambient, spot and decorative, two-ply. Both methods could create "the beauty or the beast". Better is, of course, not to create the beasts from lighting building. If it happens not only once... you may also create yourself as second: Madame Florence Foster Jenkins - in this case: the worst lighting designer of the world.

Like every novelty throughout centuries, modern architecture invariably arouses doubts among the contemporaries. It is like that particularly because the scale of the architectural image does not allow one to leave it unnoticed, whereas its function forces one to come into contact with it. The incomprehensibility of the art of architecture is the price which an architect has to pay for innovativeness, technological advancement, inter.disciplinary cooperation and ultimately for the transformation of the new values into everyday reality. Whereas the understanding of the beauty of the new architecture depends exclusively on one's will to enter into a dialogue.

Beauty as a term which expresses certain kind of illuminations and profound inner movement almost always embodies the order connected with timelessness and universality of the meaning transmitted by a piece of art. Norwegian phenomenology of architecture pays attention to notions like these: genius loci, cultural environment, inner sacrum, continuation and penetration, complementary and balance of all components of the landscape. Perception of the piece of art does not depend on its physical features but is an effect causing an influence on the subject which is a human being. The charm of the Norwegian contemporary architecture bases on easily seen relevance with genuine culture, sensitivity for vivid, natural surrounding and feeling that every place together with pieces of architectural art and nature are the part of wilder context.

In 1970s the central district of Zielona Góra experienced a significant change: many streets around and in the vicinity of City Hall have been excluded from traffic and concerted into a space for pedestrians only. The decision to do that, and the way it was accomplished met with a considerable resistance among the city dwellers. Despite of that they accustomed with it very quickly, and even liked it. Currently that part of the city is under reconstruction. Perhaps it is a right time to look at this process more creatively and courageously, having both the modern technologies and designing ideas at our disposition.

The beauty of architecture of the new times is not meant to be an experience. The material of the new architecture comprises, more and more often, forms that are enclosed in bits of information. The concept of beauty today is rather a form of self-aware cognition and the reading of the continuously changing principles and attributes of architecture. Modern architecture introduces a set of completely new conceptions and definitions. The reading of the language that describes spatial events happening both in real and virtual space, and the language of the definitions which are used, revalue the perception of beauty in architecture.

Upon author's professional experience, he is mainly engaged in commercial architecture, in particular Commercial and Retail Centers. He is trying to determine and judge the Centers in terms of their beauty. The groundwork of the judgment is a definition which determines the beauty as a group of characteristics such as: proportion of shapes, harmony of colours, sounds and others, which make One delighted and filled with admiration. The individual elements of the phrase are considered in categories which refer to the style of designing, realization, and appearance of the buildings. After analysis, the author suggests, that Shopping Malls are a new group of architectural buildings, which can be judged in the category of beauty in the same manner as other modern architectural public buildings.

What is Art? According to Greek aesthetics "The prevailing view is that Art is beauty perceived by an artist. This view is supported by yet another widespread idea that beauty is what we like and what we are fond of. An artist's task is to summon and show that very idea of beauty." While searching for a modern definition of beauty, one can recall the ideas that a) "Art is the summoning of beauty, the creation of a vision, a reflection of life and an expression of form and matter. It is a mental state, sometimes even pathological, an expression of faith, a medium of mind as writing, a medium of harmony as a sound", b) "Art connects people with similar reactions. It is indispensable for civilised life and for progress by means of: summoning, creating and shaping a form, which is materializing a vision". Modern architecture in its large-scale character rises the level of aestheticization of surroundings, yet the philosophical beauty can be traced in pursuing: sense, concept, synchronous emotional states of a creator and a recipient, and deep emotional connections between shaping space and human life. It can be found if we are able to run a dialogue and, at the same time, respect local culture".
