Pesticide Burial Grounds in Poland – Actuality Problem

Until 30th June 2010, Poland liquidated a total of 180 burial grounds containing about 16.4 thousand Mg of expired pesticides and 97 warehouses containing 0.54 thousand Mg of waste. In the period from 1st January 2011 till 31st December 2013, a total of 28 burial grounds containing about 5.4 thousand Mg of obsolete pesticides were liquidated. Only 4 burial grounds containing about 278.43 Mg wastes remained for liquidation on 31st December 2013. Currently, 3 objects remained for the liquidation. The adopted course of action connected with burial grounds is to increase the involvement of the public administration to remove them in the provinces of Lower Silesia, Opole and Podlasie (finalization of conducted administrative proceedings and enforcement of their provisions).

Nieprzydatne środki ochrony roślin i opakowania po nich stanowią bardzo istotny problem również w województwie podlaskim. Według aktualnych danych, na terenie województwa podlaskiego znajduje się 10 mogilników (z czego 5 zlikwidowano) oraz zidentyfikowanych 13 magazynów, w których zgromadzono również nieprzydatne środki ochrony roślin w ilości około 27 Mg (bez uwzględniania opakowań po środkach ochrony roślin).

In Podlaskie voivodeship we can find 10 graveyards (5 were liquidated). Also 13 stores were identificated with 27 tons of (without mass of package) pesticides. Probably the best solution for today is to build special modern waste graveyard to collect contents of still operating graveyards and stores. By now graveyards management is strictly connected with environmental, heath and agriculture ministry. In the future still existing graveyards should be abandoned. The area around graveyards must be protected from pesticides migration.
