A presentation of the author's experiences in creating perspective "bird's eye" visions of palace-garden and town planning premises as well as panoramas of town development. The impressions are based on the principles of panoramic perspective and so-called subjective perspective in accordance with the visual perception of spatial phenomena, colour and light. The discussed series of works is founded on studies drawn from nature. The reconstruction of views was assisted by information in the form of archival iconography, photographs, maps and plans. The study provides commentaries and explanations within the range of accepted terminology from the domain of the fine arts, pertaining to, i. a. the etymology of such terms as perspective drawing and panoramic perspective. Within the topic of the presented series of studies the author drew special attention to the palace-garden premises in Łobzowo near Cracow, Wilanów, and Otwock Wielki - the residence of Franciszek Bieliński, the Grand Crown Marshal in the first half of the eighteenth century. The series ends with a panorama of Warsaw and a study of Ujazdowski Castle drawn from nature. The panoramic "bird's eye view" visions employed an auxiliary drawn construction of a network of squares in a central perspective. The author's experiences in drawing "bird's eye views" are used in the current didactic curriculum of the Drawing, Painting and Sculpture Atelier in the Department of Architecture at the Warsaw Polytechnic, which continues the tradition of the Chair of Freehand Drawing, established by Zygmunt Kamiński, co-founder of the Department of Architecture in 1915. In 1974-2000 the Chair functioned under Henryk Dąbrowski. Reflections about drawn interpretations of the landscape deal not only with the technical conditions of the workshop and the principles of perspective, but also draw attention to emotional factors in creating a graphic vision and the concurrence of the drawn interpretation and the subjective and emotional perception of space. In the basic programme the drawings, graphic works and paintings executed by architects both inspire and serve as a manner of recording a vision of shaping space and rendering permanent assorted emotional spatial experiences. Quite frequently, they are perceived and assessed as independent, autonomous art works, which correspond to criteria established for the fine arts.
