Despite the supposed desacralization of the contemporary world, it is still possible today to trace symbols that come from ancient times. The present article argues that although the symbols involved in the original act of the foundation of a city are distant in time, sometimes they can still be recognized in the construction processes of our cities. The analysis of a specific architectural complex developed in a contemporary city will exemplify the survival of the archetype in the development of our urban peripheries.

Pomimo rzekomej desakralizacji współczesnego świata, wciąż jest możliwe podążanie symbolami pochodzącymi z czasów starożytnych. Niniejszy artykuł dowodzi, że symbole związane z pierwotnym aktem założenia miasta, choć odległe w czasie, wciąż można rozpoznać w procesach budowy naszych miast. Analiza konkretnego kompleksu architektonicznego, rozwiniętego we współczesnym mieście, egzemplifikuje archetyp rozwoju naszych urbanistycznych peryferii.

W szeroko rozumianej dwudziestowiecznej tradycji marksowskiej wzrosło znaczenie geografii. Przykładem tego może być teoria systemów-światów: krytyczna kontynuacja teorii modernizacji i zależności. Podstawowym schematem badawczym tej teorii jest przestrzenna relacja między centrum, półperyferiami i peryferiami, opisująca przestrzenny ład ekonomiczny. Jednym ze źródeł wzrostu znaczenia geografii może być nieuświadomiona przez badaczy autonomia rzeczywistości swoiście geograficznej.

In the broad understood Marxian tradition of the twentieth century increased the importance of geography. An example of this can be the world-systems theory: a critical continuation of modernization and dependency theories. The basic research scheme of this theory is a spatial relationship between the core, periphery and semi-periphery, describing the spatial economic order. One of the sources of the growing importance of geography can be unconscious by researches autonomy of the specifically geographical reality.

Artykuł porusza tematykę związaną z pojęciami pogranicze i peryferie w odniesieniu do Polski Wschodniej w aspekcie infrastruktury transportowej. Położenie geograficzne, przyjazne ukształtowanie terenu pograniczy na wschodzie, jak również nie tak duża odległość do rdzenia kraju, którym można określić Warszawę, powinny stanowić wartość dodaną tego obszaru. Pomimo tego zdecydowanie gorzej jest się dostać z Warszawy na obszar pogranicza, aniżeli do wielu innych miast wojewódzkich (m.in. Poznań, Wrocław, Katowice), które niejednokrotnie są bardziej oddalone. Wiąże się to z niską dostępnością komunikacyjną regionu pogranicza, która jest związana z mała liczbą dróg najwyższej klasy technicznej na wschód do linii Wisły. Opisano cechy pogranicza oraz peryferii i pokrótce przeanalizowano sytuację tego konkretnego regionu. Problemem do rozstrzygnięcia pozostaje, czy pogranicze Polski Wschodniej można utożsamiać jedynie z peryferiami państwa. Czy też może występują czynniki stanowiące o semi-peryferyjności niektórych obszarów, a postulowane inwestycje infrastrukturalne staną się czynnikami rozwoju i zmiany podejścia do przygranicza.

The article discusses the issues related to the definitions of borderland and the periphery in relation to the Polish Eastern in terms of transport infrastructure. Geographic location, friendly terrain shape in the east, as well as not so great distance to the core of the country, i.e. to Warsaw, should provide added value in this area. Despite this, much worse is to get from Warsaw to the borderland area, than to many other bigger cities (eg. Poznan, Wroclaw, Katowice), which often are more distant. This is related to the low transportation accessibility in borderland area, which is associated with a small number of roads of first-class technical, east of the line of the Vistula. Characteristics of the borderland and periphery was described, and a brief analysis of the situation of a particular region was done. The problem to be resolved is whether the Polish eastern borderland area can be identified only as the periphery of the state. Or maybe there are factors determining not only peripheral character of this areas, and postulated infrastructure investments, will become factors of development and change in the approach to the borderland area.

Upadek państw socjalistycznych wywołał debatę dotyczącą usytuowania różnych państw w Obrębie świata pozimnowojennego. Dominującym modelem poznawczym po zakończeniu Konfliktu ideologicznego na linii wschód-zachód stał się model oparty o kategorie Północ- Południe Proces globalizacji wskazuje jednak na zasadność posługiwania się koncepcją centrum peryferie, która podkreśla dynamiczność oraz relacyjność kształtowania się stosunków pomiędzy poszukiwaniami w warunkach kapitalistycznego systemu - świata. Dzięki jego zastosowaniu można zauważyć, że zjawiska i procesy stają się zrozumiałe poprzez dostrzegania związków występujący na styku polityki i ekonomii. Artykuł przybliża wyzwania dla państwa usytuowanego pomiędzy peryferiami a centrum na przykładzie Polski.

The collapse of socialist states provoked a debate on the location of the different countries with the post-Cold War world. The dominant model of cognitive disseminated alter the end Ideologlcal conflict in the east-west became the categories of North and South. The process of globalization however, indicates the validity of using the concept of the center periphery, which underlines the dynamism and relational development of relations between countries in the capitalist world-system. Thanks to its application can be seen that the phenomena and processes are understood by the identification of associations that occur at the interface between politics and economics. Article presents challenges for state situated between the periphery and the center of the polish example.
