Ro-pax vessels should fulfil the requirements of the current harmonised SOLAS Convention. The study analyses the effect of various ro-pax vessel subdivision arrangements on the subdivision index. A Polish ferry was chosen as a generic ship to perform the study. For illustration of damage survivability, the attained subdivision index A was calculated for a number of modified configurations. The arrangements included single and double sides above and below the car deck, with and without a double buoyant car deck. The conclusions of the study can be used in the design of new ro-pax vessels.

Odbiór ścieków z promów pasażerskich w porcie Świnoujście jest niezwykle istotnym zadaniem ze względu na lokalizację portu w obszarze wrażliwym Morza Bałtyckiego. Niniejszy artykuł stanowi przegląd promów pasażerskich korzystających z portu w Świnoujściu, przedstawia analizę ilości ścieków zdawanych oraz procedurę sposobu zgłaszania zamiaru zdania ścieków w porcie. Ponadto w artykule omówiono proces odbioru ścieków jak również zwrócono uwagę na problemy wynikające podczas tejże operacji oraz zwrócono uwagę na możliwości rozwoju portu w zakresie odbioru ścieków z promów pasażerskich.

Receiving sewage from passenger ferries in the port of Swinoujscie is an extremely important task due to the location of the port in the sensitive area of the Baltic Sea. This article reviews the passenger ferries using the port of Swinoujscie, presents an analysis of the amount of waste water discharged and the procedure for reporting the intention to dispose of sewage in the port. In addition, the paper discusses the process of waste water collection as well as the problems arising during the operation and highlights the possibilities of developing the port for the collection of waste water from passenger ferrie.
