In the paper a new method of the secondary flow control is described and analyzed numerically. The interaction between the side-flow and the main flow is used for controlling the secondary flow development. Non-uniform, circumferentially distributed shutters, located between stator and rotor discs, are used for controlling the merging point of two horseshoe vortex branches. A proper shutter position allows one to decrease secondary flow losses at the hub as well as at the shroud.
