Scharakteryzowano czynniki struktury funkcjonalno - przestrzennej miasta, które wpływać mogą na funkcjonowanie systemu transportowego w miastach. Artykuł ten jest wynikiem przeglądu literatury polskiej i zagranicznej oraz własnych analiz w zakresie wpływu czynników struktury funkcjonalno – przestrzennej miasta na podział zadań przewozowych. Opisano osiem głównych czynników, tj.: wielkość jednostki urbanistycznej, lokalizacja obszaru względem innych jednostek strukturalnych, intensywność i wielofunkcyjność obszaru, dostępność struktury funkcjonalno - przestrzennej do transportu, regulacje parkingowe w jednostce strukturalnej oraz aspekty socjoekonomiczne.

Sustainable city development is a city designed with consideration of environmental impact, inhabited by people and dedicated to minimize of car used. The transport system which is mainly focused on the car use in cities, cause the traffic congestion, which is the main reason of the air pollution. The main role of the local authority should be achieves of sustainable transport and land use conditions. It could be achieve by using the land use planning indicators as a tool for reducing the travel generated size serving by the car. We can distinguished a following indicators: the population density, the mixing of land use, the accessibility of the public transport network, the location and decentralization of activities, parking provision and socio – economic aspects (not as a land use indicators, but as a instruments which could impact on the travel behaviors).
