Vibrations of sandwich plates - comparison of chosen modelling approaches

Sandwich plates are certain specific type of composites, which are widely used in modern engineering. Due to their complicated multi-layered structure, in literature one can find many different modelling approaches: from a simple double-plate system to a complex theories based on complicated deformation hypothesis. In this paper the modelling of vibrations of sandwich plates is considered, as a brief resume of assumptions of several models along with their governing equations of motion are presented. In the calculation example the free vibrations of a certain sandwich plate strip are investigated with the use of all described models and additionally with the use of FEM model. Eventually, basing on the presented comparison of the obtained results, the discussion on the correctness of each modelling assumption is made.

Przedmiotem badań jest kołowa płyta sandwiczowa poddana działaniu obciążenia poprzecznego rozłożonego równomiernie na okręgu. W pracy zaprezentowano model matematyczny wyboczenia lokalnego okładziny. Sformułowano energię odkształcenia sprężystego płyty z uwzględnieniem lokalnego wyboczenia okładziny. Z zasady stacjonarności całkowitej energii potencjalnej wyznaczono funkcję przemierzeń oraz obciążenie krytyczne. Opracowano model numeryczny MES płyty i wyznaczono obciążenie krytyczne oraz postać wyboczenia-zmarszczenia okładziny. Wyniki rozwiązań analitycznego i MES porównano.

The subject of the investigation is a circular sandwich plate under transverse load distributed equally on the circle. The mathematical model of the local buckling of the face has been developed. The energy of elastic deformation has been formulated with local buckling of the face taken into account. On the basis of the theorem of stationary total potential energy the displacements function and thecritical load have been determined. Additionally the FE model of the plate has been elaborated for which the critical load and buckling shape has been obtained. The results of the analytical and numerical analyses have been compared.

Praca zawiera wyniki analizy parametrycznej nośności płyty sandwiczowej z rdzeniem ulowym poddanej równomiernemu ściskaniu. Analizowano wpływ różnych parametrów płyty na jej nośność i stosunek nośności do ciężaru własnego. Do oszacowania dolnego nośności zastosowano modele zastępcze jednorodnych płyt jednowarstwowych oraz metodę elementów skończonych dla płyty trójwarstwowej z rdzeniem homogenizowanym, do oszacowania górnego - metodę kinematyczna, w odniesieniu do płyty trójwarslwowcj z rdzeniem o zerowej sztywności. Przedstawiono wybrane wyniki obliczeń i wnioski wynikające z analizy parametrycznej.

The parametric study of the load-carrying capacity of the honeycomb sandwich plate subject to uniform compression is presented in the paper. Influence of different geometrical and material parameters of the plate upon the load-carrying capacity and load-capacity to weight ratio are examined. The lower-bound estimation of ultimate loads is conducted using the equivalent single plate approach as well as finite element analysis. The upper-bound estimation of ultimate loads is performed using the kinematical method - plastic mechanism approach. Exemplary results of numerical calculations are presented in diagrams. Conclusions concerning the appiicability of the above methods and an influence of some basic parameters upon the load-capacity of the examined plate are derived.
