Application of dynamic optimization for autonomous vehicle motion control

This article presents a procedure algorithm and vehicle dynamics models that can be applied to planning and controlling the motion of an autonomous car. The simulation results obtained using a simplified bicycle model with three degrees of freedom and a spatial model with 10 degrees of freedom were compared. The numerical efficiency of both models was evaluated. The task of dynamic optimization was formulated, the solution to which enables the implementation of lane change and overtaking maneuvers. The task was solved using the bicycle model, and the results (implementation of the intended maneuver) were validated using the spatial model.

Artykuł dotyczy kwestii bezpieczeństwa drogowego i zagrożeń wywołanych realizacją jednoczesnego manewru wyprzedzania i skrętu w lewo przez kierujących pojazdami wyprzedzającymi i wyprzedzanymi. Wskazano na regulacje prawne, jakie dotyczą kierujących pojazdami. Na konkretnych przykładach wypadków drogowych poddano analizie przebiegi zdarzeń i przyczyny ich zaistnienia. Publikacja w szczególności podejmuje problem trudności we wskazaniu sprawcy wypadku i opiniowaniu o przyczynach zaistnienia tego typu zdarzeń drogowych. Tragiczne skutki analizowanych zdarzeń skłaniają do zajmowania się tym problemem oraz sugerują potrzebę ewentualnej zmiany przepisów lub zasad szkolenia kierowców, czemu dano wyraz we wnioskach końcowych artykułu.

The article concerns the matter of road traffic safety and threats caused by simultaneous overtaking and turning left by drivers who overtake or are taken over. Legal regulations were indicated, concerning drivers. On specific examples of road accidents we analyzed the course of events and their causes. The publication especially undertakes the problem of the difficulties in indicating the culprit of accident and giving opinions about the causes of such kinds of road events. The tragic results of the analyzed events create the tendency to taking up this problem and suggest the need for possible change of regulations or principles of training drivers, which was expressed in final conclusions of the article.

Modelling Articulated Vehicles with a Flexible Semi-Trailer

The paper presents a model of an articulated vehicle with a flexible frame of a semi-trailer. The rigid finite element method in a modified formulation is used for discretisation of the frame. In order to carry out effective numerical simulation, a reduced model with a considerably smaller number of degrees of freedom is proposed. The parameters of the reduced model are chosen in an optimization process by using a genetic algorithm. To this end, it is assumed that the full and reduced model have to be similar in the range of static deflections and frequencies of free vibrations. Numerical simulations are concerned with the influence of the flexibility of the frame on the motion of the articulated vehicle during an overtaking maneuver. Results are presented and discussed.

W artykule przedstawiono model samochodu wieloczłonowego z uwzględnieniem podatnej ramy naczepy. Do dyskretyzacji ramy wykorzystano metodę sztywnych elementów skończonych. W celu przeprowadzenia efektywnych numerycznie symulacji dynamiki zaproponowano model uproszczony, którego ruch opisano przy pomocy znacznie mniejszej liczby stopni swobody. Parametry modelu uproszonego dobrano w procesie optymalizacji z wykorzystaniem algorytmów genetycznych zakładając, że ugięcia statyczne oraz określona liczba pierwszych częstości drgań własnych muszą być takie same w modelach uproszczonym i pełnym. Przedstawiono wyniki obliczeń numerycznych dotyczące wpływu podatności ramy naczepy na ruch pojazdu podczas manewru wyprzedzania.
