Crystalline D-glucose extracted from dried resins was irradiated with 60Co gamma rays. The multicomponent EMR spectra of the samples kept at ambient temperature were compared with those heated at 105°C – the temperature close to the melting point of glucose. Normalized EMR spectra recorded with both samples were subtracted, resulting in a differential EMR spectrum. Spectral analysis of all three spectra has been done resulting in the identification of isotropic doublet of doublets assigned to less stable radical derived from parent glucose molecule.

The oxidation of aqueous sulphur dioxide by molecular oxygen is discussed as a source of free radicals. A particular attention is focussed on the inhibition of this reaction due to sulphoxy radical scavenging by organic compounds, like terpenes and phenols. The inhibition consequences for the aqueous phase chemistry of environmental importance are considered.

W pracy dyskutowana jest reakcja utleniania dwutlenku siarki w fazie wodnej przez tlen molekularny będąca źródłem wolnych rodników. Szczególna uwaga skierowana jest na inhibicję tej reakcji wywołaną zmiataniem rodników siarkotlenowych przez związki organiczne, takie jak terpeny i fenole. Rozważane są skutki inhibicji w odniesieniu do chemii fazy wodnej mającej znaczenie w środowisku.
