Artykuł ma na celu przedstawienie opisu badania pacjenta ze stożkiem przednim soczewki OP i OL z perspektywy optometrysty. Dzięki dokładnemu wywiadowi i analizie pomiarów optometrysta jest w stanie rozpoznać stożek soczewki i skierować pacjenta na dalszą diagnozę do okulisty.

The main point of this article is to present an examination of a patient with lenticonus anterior, from the optometrist’s view. Thanks to a precise medical interview and analysis of each measurement, an optometrist is able to discern a lenticonus anterior and direct a patient for further diagnostics.

Neurooptometria jest stosunkowo nową w Polsce specjalizacją w dziedzinie optometrii, która powstała w odpowiedzi na schorzenia neurologiczne starzejącego się społeczeństwa, takie jak choroby demielinizacyjne. W obszarze zainteresowań specjalistów są również osoby młode zmagające się ze schorzeniami wynikającymi z nabytych urazów mózgu (ang. Acquired Brain Injury, ABI), takimi jak wstrząśnienia mózgu w stopniu lekkim (ang. mild Traumatic Brain Injury, mTBI) lub udary mózgowo-naczyniowe (ang. Cerebrovascular Accidents, CVA). Jak wykazują badania, nawet do 90% pacjentów z mTBI doświadcza problemów wzrokowych (problemy motoryki gałek ocznych, problemy z akomodacją, dwojenie i zaniki pola widzenia). Z tego względu pacjenci ci doświadczają pogorszenia jakości życia spowodowanej problemami z czytaniem, koncentracją lub dwojeniem obrazu. Celem pracy dyplomowej było przedstawienie elementów badania neurookulistycznego w codziennej praktyce z użyciem standardowego wyposażenia gabinetu optometrycznego.

Neurooptometry is a relatively new specialization in the field of optometry in Poland, which was created in response to neurological diseases of an aging society, such as demyelinating diseases. An additional area of interest for eye care specialists are young people struggling with diseases resulting from Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), such as mild Traumatic Brain Injury (mTBI) or Cerebrovascular Accidents (CVA). As research shows, up to 90% of mTBI patients experience visual problems (oculomotor problems, accommodation disorders, diplopia and loss of the visual field). For this reason, these patients experience deterioration in quality of life due to problems with reading, concentration or diplopia. The aim of the diploma thesis is to present the elements of neuro-ophthalmic examination in everyday practice with the use of standard optometric equipment.

Niniejsza praca poświęcona jest badaniom poziomu wiedzy studentów optometrii na temat organizacji, fundacji czy inicjatyw prywatnych działających na rzecz ochrony wzroku oraz propozycjom studentów odnośnie takich przedsięwzięć.Badanie zostało przeprowadzone wśród studentów Politechniki Wrocławskiej, przy użyciu kwestionariusza ankietowego. Zebrany materiał pozwolił na ocenę poziomu wiedzy studentów oraz przeanalizowanie ich propozycji odnośnie działania takich organizacji. Jednym z wniosków wynikających z przeprowadzonych badań jest to, że informacje na temat nowych inicjatyw na rzecz ochrony wzroku nie są, w ocenie studentów, wystarczająco dobrze rozpowszechniane. Pozytywnym aspektem przeprowadzonych badań jest fakt, że przeważająca liczba badanych zadeklarowała chęć wzięcia udziału w nowych inicjatywach na rzecz ochrony wzroku.

This paper is to examine the knowledge of optometry students on organizations, foundations, and private initiatives that work to preserve vision.The survey was conducted among the students of the Technical University of Wroclaw, using a questionnaire. The collected material allowed the assessment of the level of knowledge and the analysis of students’ ideas regarding the activities of such organizations. One of the conclusions resulting from the study is that information on new initiatives to protect eyesight is not, in the opinion of students, sufficiently distributed. A positive aspect of the study is the fact that an overwhelming number of respondents had declared their willingness to participate in new initiatives to protect eyesigh.

Fixation disparity curve in dyslexic adults

Dyslexia is a worldwide disorder in children and adults. The visual characteristics of dyslexics has been studied with variable results. One area of interest is fixation disparity (FD). This is a measure of alignment of the oculomotor system during binocular fusion. A graphical plot of the FD as it changes as a function of induced prisms before the eyes results in a forced vergence fixation disparity curve (FDC). The associated phoria is defined as the prism needed to return the FD to the ortho position. We performed FD evaluations and compared FDC characteristics with a group of 50 subjects: 25 dyslexic adults and 25 typically reading adults. The comparisons suggest that exo FD and the absolute amount of associated phoria tend to be higher in dyslexic adults. Moreover, they experience more instability of FD compared to the controls. They also have more limited convergence range and total vergence range. Both instability in motor responses and reduced vergence ranges indicate that binocular instability is likely to occur in dyslexic adults.

Examination and optical correction of the vision system following the procedure of cataract removal

The main goal of this thesis was a comprehensive assessment of the condition of the vision system following cataract surgery and implantation of posterior chamber artificial lens and assessment of the postoperative astigmatism, considering the dynamics of reduction of the postoperative astigmatism in the early postoperative period (3 months after the surgery). Also, the assessment of binocular vision of the operated patients was carried out. The results obtained were related to the currently used procedure methods, i.e., phacoemulsification and extracapsular cataract removal. The thesis is realized in cooperation with the Ophthalmic Department of the Province Hospital in Poznañ (Szpital Wojewódzki w Poznaniu), Poland.
