Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are used to acquire measurement data for an increasing number of applications. Photogrammetric studies based on UAV data, thanks to the significant development of computer vision techniques, photogrammetry, and equipment miniaturization, allow sufficient accuracy for many engineering and non-engineering applications to be achieved. In addition to accuracy, development time and cost of data acquisition and processing are also important issues. The aim of this paper is to present potential limitations in the use of UAVs to acquire measurement data and to present measurement and processing techniques affecting the optimisation of work both in terms of accuracy and economy. Issues related to the type of drones used (multi-rotor, fixed-wing), type of shutter in the camera (rolling shutter, global shutter ), camera calibration method (pre-calibration, self-calibration), georeferencing method (direct, indirect), technique of measuring the external images orientation parameters (RTK, PPK, PPP), flight design methods and the type of software used were analysed.

The dairy industry faces many challenges when compared to other sectors. On the supply side, due to the nature of the raw material, large inventories are not applied; during the manufacturing process, continuous production is highly sensitive to any sort of unplanned disruption; on the demand side, the market dictates the bulk powder commodity prices. In response to the growth in competition, dairy organizations’ strategy must incorporate technology into their daily processes in order to become more efficient, profitable and sustainable. To achieve desired levels of improvement, Modelling and Simulation (M&S) has been increasing in popularity in the decision-making process. Using a dairy company as a case study, this paper has highlighted the potential for M&S to be used as a powerful strategic tool for decision-making processes.

Computer simulation of flow processes by means of modern computational units of a high computing power, allowing for real reconstruction of the smallest swirl areas occurring there, makes at present one of the biggest challenges in that domain. Increasing requirements in many areas of engineering knowledge, which condition further development of the processes and technologies used, cannot be executed without mathematical calculations. Attractiveness of such theoretical considerations is connected with possibility of considerable decrease of costs of research in comparison with practical (real) experiments.

Skillful control of a network flow, which creates a real bridge between the supplier and user, is one of the most important conditions for cost-efficient operation of an enterprise, foundry shop included. This paper describes modern principles of the network optimising for better distribution of the moulding sand, using modern methods of operational research and commonly available Excel calculation sheet equipped with an optimising tool called Solver.

The use of non-wovens as absorbent products is increasing, as is the consumption of cotton fibres as raw materials for these products. This paper presents some results concerning the obtaining of absorbent non-woven products made from cotton fibres. A fibrous web was formed by the superposition of cotton bands as a short layer. Special needle types supplied by SINGER Spezialnadelfabrik GmbH & Co. KG were used during the needle-punching process. Equations of variation of liquid absorption speed and surface weight have been analysed in order to optimise the needle-punching process of the cotton fibrous webs.
