Omówiono podstawowe zagadnienia związane z procesem podejmowania decyzji menadżerskiech. Proces ten staje się coraz trudniejszy, gdyż rozwiązywane problemy są coraz bardziej złożone, a zadania kompleksowe; wynika to z rozwoju samego przedsiębiorstwa i zmian zachodzących w jego otoczeniu. Dlatego proces musi podlegać ciągłej racjonalizacji i doskonaleniu, aby lepiej przystosować przedsiębiorstwo do otoczenia i przygotować je do radzenia sobie z coraz trudniejszą przyszłością. Zaproponowane sposoby postępowania powinny ułatwić menadżerom działania praktyczne.

Decision-making process is a constant and integral part of any managerial activity. All managers must therefore be able to take and make effective decisions and understand the processes involved in their implementation. There are therefore different stages in the decision-making process which, if understood and followed, provide a model for all circumstances in which decisions were taken. These are as follows: formulating the problem, defining its scope and time horizon; specifying an answer to the problem, generating all the facts; constructing the model, noting any assumptions and abstractions that are made in doing so; solving the model, manipulating it to obtain solution values for variables and identifying optimal variants; reviewing the original assumption, interpreting the model solution in this light; deciding what is right, rather than what is acceptable, in order to meet the boundary conditions; testing the validity and effectiveness of the decision against the actual course of events; and implementing the solution to the problem (decision), using the insight gained from the analysis.
