Electrostatic systems with linear and angular movements are compared in this paper. Variants with rectangular and rounded up comb fingers are considered. A field analysis is performed using the 3D models of the relevant comb structures. Calculations and comparison of results show an insignificant effect of the change in microstructure form on the parameters of the system.

Artykuł przedstawia porównanie układów elektrostatycznych grzebieniowych o ruchu liniowym i kątowym. W przypadku ruchu liniowego rozpatrywano przypadki zębów prostokątnych i zębów zaokrąglonych. Przeprowadzono analizę polową z wykorzystaniem modelu 2D i 3D wymienionych konstrukcji grzebieniowych. Obliczenia i porównanie wyników wykazują nieznaczny wpływ zmiany kształtu mikrostruktury na parametry układu.

The work presents results of the research on the relations between temperature and resistance relaxation times of thin films of the YBa₂Cu₃O₇₋x superconductor deposited on substrates with different thermal conductivity (SrTiO₃, MgO, Al₂O₃) and the duration of optical and current pulses (ranging from 5ns to 1ms) and the temperature level of the superconductor film. The research was conducted by means of the numerical modelling method of the resistance response in the superconducting element. The research findings can be used for developing thin-film structures of switching elements in order to optimize the process of selecting materials and the film thickness adjusted to working modes of these elements.

Content available remote A multimode interference polymer-silica hybrid waveguide 2×2 thermo-optic switch

A polymer-silica hybrid 2×2 thermo-optic switch is demonstrated. The top cladding and core layer are composed of polymers, while the bottom cladding is made of silica. Since polymer and silica have opposite signs of thermo-optic coefficients, the change of the refractive index of the core is opposite to that of the bottom cladding as the temperature increased. With the finite difference beam propagation method (FD-BPM) and thermal coupling simulation, the proposed device presents a crosstalk of 20 and 18 dB at bar state and cross state, respectively. The device also exhibits extinction ratios of 19 and 27 dB at each state. In addition, the low absorption of material and simple structure of the device enable the insertion loss to be 17 dB. Also the electrical power consumption is about 45 mW at ? = 1.55 mm. The rise time and fall time of switching are 0.2 ms and 0.4 ms, respectively.

This work proposes a method for lowering the energy of an optical impulse required to switch superconducting key elements, based on driving such components with the use of current and optical radiation impulses with varied lengths. The investigation was conducted with the aid of numerical modelling of the superconducting switching element response for a structure composed of a thin YBa2Cu3O7-x superconducting film deposited on a sapphire substrate (Al2O3) with a buffer layer composed of strontium titanate (SrTiO3). It was proven that thanks to the driving with control impulses of varied lengths, it is possible to switch such elements with 1.6-3.5 times lower energy of the optical impulse and the current slightly higher than the critical current, as compared to the switching mechanism using impulses of the same length.

In this paper, an ultrafast optical switching for thin polymer films (polyarylans with allylic groups) is presented. It was realized using the Nd:YAG Sagnac interferometer. Investigated polymers appeared to be suitable candidates for elements of integrated optical telecommunication systems.

Omówiono zastosowania szybkiej transmisji DWDM w sieciach szkieletowych, które stwarzają możliwość realizacji marzeń o "całkowicie optycznej sieci". Wskazano na nowe techniki, między innymi na nowe światłowody z dyspersją chromatyczną, umożliwiające spełnienie wymagań stawianych przed przyszłymi szybkimi sieciami szkieletowymi.
