Three quartz samples extracted from different origins were collected for ESR evaluation to appreciate the optical bleaching characteristics of the E1’ centre in a long time scale. After exposure of about 400 hours to artificial sunlight, the E1’ centre were bleached to a steady increasing level, about 2.5 times of its natural level, and the increase level also exhibit a small variability among different sample origins. The constant increasing level provide a significantly evidence for the potential use of the natural signal intensities of quartz E1’ centre in tracing sediment provenance. The results show that the signal intensity of E1’ centre increased within beginning 84 h and decreased after 202 h as previous researches have partly predicted. After long time exposed to sunlight, there is no correlation between irradiated samples’ dose rate and its E1’ centre ESR signal intensity. Thus, no new convenient indication shed light on the possible use of the E1’ centre for ESR sediment dating.

Przeprowadzono badania w celu ustalenia, czy istnieje korelacja pomiędzy wynikami wzrokowej oceny białości a pomiarami spektroreflektometrycznymi bez filtra UV, uzyskanymi dla tkanych i dzianych wyrobów włókienniczych, wykonanych z użyciem włókien celulozowych, poliamidowych, poliestrowych i poliuretanowych. Wyroby te poddane były wielokrotnym operacjom prania/wybielania za pomocą układów zawierających chemiczne wybielacze tlenowe i chlorowe. W przypadku prań wielokrotnych stwierdzono wysoki poziom zgodności wyników oceny wzrokowej i instrumentalnej.

To compare the results of spectroreflectometric and visual detns. of textile garment whiteness, woven and knitted cellulose, polyamide, polyester and polyurethane textiles were multiple treated with Cl and H2O-based chem. bleaches. A direct correlation between results of visual and instrumental measurements was found.

Distributions of equivalent doses (DE) obtained by the Single Aliquot Regenerative-dose (SAR) OSL method applied for large aliquots of coarse quartz grains extracted from fluvial sediments are presented and analysed with respect to a fluvial palaeoenvironment. The Nowe Dąbie and Łochowo fluvial succession from the western part of Toruń Basin (eastern part of Noteć–Warta streamway, Toruń-Eberswalde ice-marginal valley) was analysed. The fluvial depositional conditions controlling the extent of daylight bleaching are reconstructed by sedimentological studies. The relation between the amount of bleaching and sedimentological properties of fluvial deposits indicate that ripple cross-laminated sands that accumulated on the floodplain and horizontally-bedded sands deposited in shallow channels are more appropriate for OSL dating than sands derived from the deep channel. Along with luminescence results obtained for the river deposits, data measured from an ancient pottery sample, ensuring complete reset of the OSL signal, are presented, compared to and discussed. On this base the poorly bleached sediment samples are identified and an adjustment factor is introduced for correcting their OSL dating results in order to avoid age inversion. The application of the adjustment factor is found to minimize overestimation of OSL ages of sediments.
