Artykuł przedstawia zdobycie 23 marca 2003 r. przez siły Task Force Tarawa (USMC) mostów w mieście An Nasirija podczas początkowej fazy operacji Iraqi Freedom. Walki grupy bojowej w tym mieście uznawane są za jedno z najważniejszych starć sił amerykańskich w terenie zurbanizowanym od czasu walk w Hue podczas wojny wietnamskiej (1968). Część pierwsza pracy omawia założenia operacyjne i organizację TF Tarawa. W drugiej części przedstawiono walki 1 batalionu piechoty, które są klasycznym przykładem opanowania punktów kluczowych w walce w terenie zabudowanym.

This paper presents the seizure of two bridges in An Nasiriyah by the troops of Task Force Tarawa (USMC) during the initial phase of Operation “Iraqi Freedom”. This combat is considered to be one of the major urban fights since the fighting in Hue during the Vietnam War (1968). The first part of the article discusses the task and organization of TF Tarawa. The second part presents the struggle of 1st Marine Battalion, which is a classic example of the seizure of key objectives in urban combat.

Artykuł przedstawia krótką charakterystykę zasadzki, jako jednego z elementów taktyki działań piechoty w terenie zabudowanym. W pierwszej części omówiono współczesne poglądy na rolę zasadzki w działaniach miejskich oraz poszczególne jej warianty: zasadzka przygotowana i improwizowana. W drugiej części zawarto analizę taktyczną walki stoczonej 12 listopada 2004 r. przez irackich insurgentów z siłami amerykańskie TF 2 – 2 IN w Faludży, która jest klasycznym przykładem zastosowania przygotowanej zasadzki w obronie w terenie zabudowanym.

This paper presents a concise description of an ambush as one of infantry tactics in a built-up area. The first part of the article depicts modern views on the role of an ambush in urban combat and its variants: a deliberate ambush and a hasty one. The other part of the article includes a short tactical analysis of the AIF (Anti Iraqi Forces, Iraqi Insurgents) urban ambush in the Shohada District in Fallujah on 12 November 2004. This fight is a classic example of a deliberate infantry defence ambush in an urban environment.

Taking under consideration study analysis on XX and XXI century military conflicts and development trends of specialist equipment, designated to military fights in urban area, this article introduces a conception of equipment used in tanks, which are assigned to urban area combat. An article shows technologies available nowadays in domestic military industry both with new solutions, which are possible to develop in domestic research and development units.

W oparciu o wyniki analiz ze studiów nad konfliktami zbrojnymi XX i XXI wieku oraz trendy rozwoju specjalistycznego wyposażenia do walk w terenie zurbanizowanym w artykule przedstawiono koncepcje wyposażenia czołgu do walk w mieście. Ujęto technologie obecnie dostępne w krajowym przemyśle obronnym, jak i nowe, które można rozwijać w krajowych jednostkach badawczo – rozwojowych.

Political transformations of the last decade of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century and also connected with them increase of national and international conflicts started numerous revaluations in the conceptions of military forces engagement. This led to NATO’s and European Union’s growing interest in intervention and peace operations problems within the broad term of security. This resulted in enlarging the traditional area of armed forces tasks with crisis management and peace support operations. Through a dialogue, cooperation, partnership and using selected armed forces’ components, the UN, OSCE, NATO and EU try to stabilize different countries and regions. Future war operations or below the threshold of war operations will definitely be conducted within Multinational Task Force, their foundation will make tactical groups delegated by particular countries. This awareness obliges us to be prepared as a NATO and EU member to create and effective operations within such groups in various conditions. If we take this into consideration, then it will be easier to answer the question what the land forces will be like in future. The problems of fighting in the built up area is the field of research and changes that are currently conducted in many armies in the world. Not only does this show the significance of the problem, but also causes that the adopted solutions are swiftly out-of-date. Hypothetical predictions show the need of changing the theory of fighting in the built up area, particularly relating to the land forces content and way of engagement. Solving crisis situations will be performed mainly using multinational task forces, the basis of which will be land forces groups.
