Harmonization of criteria and operationalization of sustainable development indicators in the assessment of bioproducts

This article analyses sustainable development indicators for the assessment of bioproducts. It also determines criteria for the operationalization of bioproduct assessment on the basis of available literature on the subject and the opinions of entrepreneurs producing packaging made of petroleum derivative materials. The results of literature and questionnaire studies indicate that indicators used for the assessment should accurately reflect the process or state of affairs they present, and be clear for every stakeholder throughout the entire supply chain.

Artykuł miał na celu wskazanie ścieżki wyboru wskaźników zrównoważonego rozwoju do oceny bioproduktów. Jest próbą wyznaczenia kryteriów operacjonalizacji oceny bioproduktów na podstawie dostępnej literatury przedmiotu oraz opinii przedsiębiorców produkujących opakowania z tworzyw ropopochodnych. Wyniki badań literaturowych oraz ankietowych wskazują, że wskaźniki stosowane do oceny powinny dokładnie odzwierciedlać proces lub stan rzeczy, który prezentują, być zrozumiałe dla każdego interesariusza na całym łańcuchu dostaw.

W artykule scharakteryzowano wybrane etapy procesu badawczego dotyczące przekształcania informacji o obiektach w jego cechy. Ponadto przedstawiono ogólną koncepcję tworzenia kryteriów oceny w oparciu o wymagania merytoryczno-formalne, wynikające z aktualnie prowadzonego postepowania ocenowego. Wskazano, iż to właśnie charakter cech wpływa na dobór metody oceny. Szczególnie przydatną może być w tym obszarze analiza morfologiczna, która pozwala na uzyskanie dużej liczby rozwiązań uwzględniających zidentyfikowane parametry sytuacji ocenowej.

The article describes selected stages of the research regarding the information transformation about objects into its features. In addition, it was presented the general concept of creating evaluation criteria based on the substantive and formal requirements resulting from the currently conducted evaluation procedure. It was pointed out that it is the nature of the features that influences the selection of the assessment method. Morphological analysis may be particularly useful in this area. This method allows obtaining a large number of solutions taking into account identified parameters of the assessment situation.

The main purpose of the article is to analyze the cultural dimension of military-led endeavors of the international community aimed at countering asymmetric threats such as post-modern terrorism and insurgencies. Although the international community agreed that military activity itself is not a proper answer to the transnational terrorist threat, the use of military components will be continued in such activities. In particular that military operations have nowadays extended way beyond the traditional, Clausewitz’s hard power concept. Not only do we observe the shift of the centers of gravity in today’s operations towards the human terrain, namely the area of operation population. Contemporary military operations also characterize with rising significance of non-kinetic elements in "COIN," anti- and counterterrorism operations, such as civil-military cooperation, civil affairs, psychological and information operations, which base on profound knowledge of adversaries’ cultures. With the emergence of population-centric operations, an urgent need of considering cultural factors of the Area of Operation emerged, and the missing link between the awareness of the cultural aspects of threats, such as also terrorist activity, and operational plans that consider them, has not yet been found and fully utilized in military planning. Therefore we face a need of the skill of operationalization of culture, understood as the identification of vital for military activities features of culture of any object of the activity, and integrating such knowledge and skills into the processes of shaping military security. Hence, although the article’s main focus is on military aspects of combating terrorism, the strategic security environment changes and the paradigm shift, demand us to consider wide, sociocultural context, not only criminal and military aspect of terrorism. Although insurgency and terrorism are not the same phenomena, their culture, motivations, mechanisms and organizational structure is alike, and they both use terrorism as heir tactics. Many of the lessons learned during counterinsurgency operations in Afghanistan and Iraq can be used while combating terrorism within military and other security operations elsewhere, not only for the needs of the military, but also other armed formations - such as the police - and civilian specialists working in the field. Gathered research proves that operationalization of culture can be an effective tool of enhancing the effectiveness of employing uniformed formations to counter violent extremisms.

Punktem wyjścia niniejszego artykułu jest problem wielości tekstów o śmierci jako tabu. Omawiana jest możliwość ich uporządkowania pod względem szeregu zaproponowanych kryteriów. Dokonany w ten sposób przegląd różnorodnych aspektów zjawiska ujawnia zasadniczą oś podziału analizowanych ujęć tabu śmierci. Wyróżnione zostają dwa dominujące podejścia: psychologiczne i socjokulturowe. W dalszej części dyskutowane są możliwości ich empirycznej weryfikacji oraz związane z tym trudności.

The starting point of the article is the problem of a multitude of texts about death as a taboo. The possibility of ordering them in terms of the proposed criteria is discussed. An overview of the various aspects of the phenomenon reveals a fundamental axis that divides the approaches to the problem of the death taboo into two dominant groups: psychological and socio-cultural. In the further part, the author examines the possibilities of the empirical verification of a taboo thesis and also lists some difficulties which may be associated with them.
