Literature review on the rail transport schedule robustness

The article presents issues concerning rail transport (rail, metro and tramway) and factors influencing the planned implementation of the schedule. At the beginning, the scope of application of the robustness concept was analysed, based on scientific and industry literature. Then the attention was focused on the model of the rail transport system and the schedule, the basic indicator of robustness assessment was discussed, taking into account the methods of analysis used and many variables occurring in rail transport. Finally, a review of the state of knowledge is summarised and the most important observations from the analysis are indicated. In the case of a robust schedule there is no propagation of disruption across the network after an adverse event has occurred.

W artykule przedstawiono zagadnienia dotyczące transportu szynowego (kolei, metra i tramwajów) i czynników mających wpływ na planową realizację harmonogramu. Na początku przeanalizowano zakres stosowania pojęcia „odporność”, bazując na literaturze naukowej i branżowej. Następnie skupiono uwagę na modelu systemu transportu kolejowego i harmonogramie, omówiono podstawowe wskaźnik oceny odporności z uwzględnieniem stosowanych metod analizy i wielu zmiennych występujących w transporcie kolejowym. Na końcu podsumowano przegląd stanu wiedzy i wskazano najważniejsze spostrzeżenia z analizy. W przypadku odpornego harmonogramu nie następuje propagacja zakłóceń w całej sieci po wystąpieniu zdarzenia niepożądanego.

The provision of quality transport services is a prerequisite for the creation of an efficient organization that can meet the expectations and requirements of both the enterprise itself and its customers. From the railway enterprise's point of view, it is necessary to pay attention to the increasingly demanding requirements of its customers in railway passenger transport. This article focuses on identifying defects in rail transport processes that negatively affect ordinary operations. One of the most serious bottlenecks affecting railway transport reliability is the train delay, which fundamentally affects the perception of railway transport. At the same time, it emphasizes the need to apply individual tools according to the DMAIC cycle in order to achieve continuous improvement. The aim of the implemented Six Sigma methodology in railway enterprise is disciplined application of statistical problem-solving tools to recognize the gaps in the transport process and set out individual steps for their gradual removal.

W artykule wskazano na metody prowadzenia analiz warunków ruchu kolejowego oparte na dwóch parametrach: zdolności przepustowej i opóźnieniach pociągów. Szczególną uwagę poświęcono ocenie powszechnie stosowanych uproszczeń w analizach.

In this article, the traffic analysis methods based on two parameters: throughput capacity and train delays have been demonstrated. Special attention has been paid to the impact of common simplifications on the results of the analysis.
