Modern man is trapped between two contradictory attitudes, duties: to be economically efficient and ecologically responsible. Shifting the burden towards ecological responsibility creates a new ethical order, but does not invalidate the economic order. As a result, isn't the new ethical entity homo ecologicus becoming even more homo oeconomicus? In this paper, I ask the question whether the contemporary attitudes of modern citizens segregating garbage are an expression of their ecological awareness or rather the result of the policies of big corporations, which have been for several years shifting the responsibility for littering the planet from a producer to an individual consumer.
