In recent years, much attention has been paid to the recording of flight data in order to provide objective information concerning routine and emergency in-flight situations. The data recorded can be used for assessing the air mission execution by the pilot and flight safety breaches, for specifying some damage to the equipment, and for preventing faulty equipment from being used in flights. Flight data recorders (FDRs) are commonly known as “black boxes”. This article presents issues related to flight data acquisition and preparing the data for later use, as well as their impact on flight safety. The systems recording and processing selected parameters not only enable ongoing diagnostics, but also make it possible to predict the period of further reliable operations and to analyse the causes that led to possible damage. In addition to improving economic indicators of the aircraft operation, flight safety is improved. Obviously, the article will only discuss certain ways of enhancing safety by applying the processing of data obtained from FDRs. Nevertheless, I believe it will offer an overall view of how important it is to collect, process and properly analyse such data for diagnostics, prediction and flight safety.

Zbadano skład i właściwości betonu na nawierzchni autostradowej, która była zbudowana przez Niemców i oddana do eksploatacji przed rokiem 1935. Badania te zostały podjęte z uwagi na bardzo dobry stan tej autostrady. Stwierdzono, że beton na tej nawierzchni składa się z kruszywa bazaltowego oraz z piasku kwarcowego, z niewielkim dodatkiem okruchów skalnych, bogatych w skaleń. Ziarna cementu, które do roku 2008 nie uległy hydratacji, składają się z belitu i brownmillerytu, i mają duże wymiary, sięgające 100 μm. Wskazuje to na dużą zawartość tych faz w cemencie i jego małą miałkość. Właściwości betonu są bardzo dobre; porowatość całkowita wynosi około 11%, a wytrzymałość 88 MPa.

The composition and properties of concrete on the pavement of the highway, which was constructed by Germans and open for exploitation before the year 1935 were examined. This study was caused by very good condition of this highway, until now. It was establish that concrete on this pavement is composed of basalt aggregate and quartz sand, with low addition of rocks chips, rich in feldspar. Cement grains, which till 2008 remained unhydrated, are composed of belite and brownmillerite and has large dimension. It proofs that cement was rich in these phases and had low fineness. Concrete properties are very good: total porosity is around 11% and compressive strength above 88 MPa.

The aim of the study is to compare flexible pavement design lifespans and the main factors which create their values for a standard structure and one with an anti-fatigue course AF at different parameter values of pavement and its load, relevant to their design processes. Depending on the mixture used for the anti-fatigue course or the course thickness, durability improvement of the pavement (compared to the durability of a standard structure) can be obtained by extending the design lifespan of the asphalt base course or by extending the design lifespan of the AF course. On sections with predominantly slow traffic, the lifespan decreases significantly compared to sections with typical vehicle speed - the relative decrease is greater if anti-fatigue course is applied.

W referacie przedstawiono kompleksowe badania czterech kablobetonowych, prefabrykowanych belek podsuwnicowych o rozpiętości modularnej 6 m, wyprodukowanych w latach 1962–1963, a obecnie zdemontowanych z hali przemysłowej w celu określenia możliwości zwiększenia udźwigu suwnicy w tym obiekcie. Badania obejmowały określenie rysoodporności oraz nośności na zginanie i ścinanie przedmiotowych elementów oraz komplet badań materiałowych niezbędnych do określenia dalszej trwałości. Kable sprężające i ich zakotwienia znajdowały się w bardzo dobrym stanie technicznym, a przeprowadzone badania elementów potwierdziły, że w kablach znajduje się odpowiednia siła sprężająca. Badania betonu i zaczynu iniekcyjnego wykazały, że z punktu widzenia właściwości chemicznych, materiały te, pomimo 50-letniego okresu eksploatacji w warunkach przemysłowych, nie utraciły pierwotnych właściwości charakterystycznych dla tzw. zdrowego betonu.

The comprehensive research off our post-tensioned, precast crane beams, with a modular span of 6 m, manufactured in the years1962 to 1963, and currently dismantled from an industrial hall in order to identify possibility to increase cranes capacity at this property is presented in the paper. The research included the cracking resistance determination, bending and shear capacity of these elements, as well as a set of materials tests. Prestressing cables and its anchorages were in very good condition and the elements tests have confirmed that in the cables there is a suitable prestressing force. Examination of concrete and injection grout showed that in terms of chemical properties, these materials, despite 50 years of service life in industrial conditions, do not lose the original characteristics of the so-called healthy concrete.

Nowe przepisy dotyczące oceny nośności eksploatowanych mostów zostały w ostatniej dekadzie opracowane m.in. w Kanadzie, Wielkiej Brytanii, Danii oraz Szwajcarii. Dokonano przeglądu tych przepisów oraz sformułowano rekomendacje dotyczące przyszłych polskich zasad oceny nośności obiektów mostowych z uszkodzeniami oraz ograniczonym okresem przydatności użytkowej.

During the last decade, new codes for the assessment of existing bridges have been developed in Canada, the UK as well as Denmark and Switzerland. The objective of this paper is to review how the above-listed key elements are addressed in existing assessment codes and give some recommendations for development of the new Polish assessment code for bridges with defects and reduced service life.

Silnik elektryczny można uznać za wyrób stosunkowo niedrogi, koszt zakupu nowego silnika klatkowego równoważy się z kosztem zaledwie 1-2 lat jego eksploatacji. Mimo to w przypadku awarii silnika rutynowo oddaje się go do remontu. Czy zawsze jest to działanie racjonalne?

W artykule rozpatrywane są zmiany właściwości użytkowych budynku, jakie powstają od momentu oddania do użycia do czasu tzw. wyjścia z użytkowania. Wyodrębniono dwa, niezależne procesy jakie występują w trakcie eksploatacji budynków: pierwszy - stałe pogarszanie się właściwości użytkowych obiektu oraz drugi - wzrost wymagań użytkowników. Poddano szczegółowej analizie te zjawiska: przedstawione są zarówno główne przyczyny ich powstawania jak i przebieg tych zjawisk zapisany jako funkcja czasu. Praca zawiera stosowne przykłady.

This article considers changes in the utility properties of a building which occur over the period from when it comes into use and when it is taken out of use. Two independent processes occurring during building use are identified: firstly a continuous deterioration in the building's utility qualities, and secondly an increase in users' expectations. Detailed analysis of these phenomena is presented, including their main causes and their progress as a function of time. The article also contains relevant examples.
