This paper evaluates ceramic membrane performance and fouling mechanisms in the ultrafiltration of model oil-in-water solutions with addition of NaCl. First, the work estimated the effect of main process parameters, i.e. transmembrane pressure, cross-flow velocity and NaCl content in the feed on oil rejection and permeate flux using 23 experimental design. The ultrafiltration experiments were carried out using pilot installation with commercial tubular ceramic 300 kDa membrane. Ultrafiltration data obtained using experimental design technique was used to determine the regression coefficients of polynomial equations. These equations give information on non-conjugated as well as conjugated effects of two operating parameters and one feed parameter on ceramic membrane performance in ultrafiltration process of model oil-in-water-NaCl solutions. Moreover, these equations can help to determine optimal conditions for ultrafiltration process from the point of view of membrane permeability and selectivity. Next, ultrafiltration results were analyzed using resistance-in-series model. It was found that the process is membrane resistance limited. It was also stated that, resistance caused by reversible fouling is greater than irreversible fouling resistance. Finally, pore blocking models based on modified Hermia’s equation were used to determine membrane fouling mechanism responsible for permeate flux decline with ultrafiltration time. In investigated system ceramic membrane fouling was caused by complete and intermediate pore blocking mechanisms

Przedstawiono wpływ stężenia emulgatora na wielkość kropel emulsji, właściwości reologiczne i stabilność emulsji. Wykazano, że lepkość emulsji wzrasta wraz ze wzrostem stężenia emulgatora. Średnice kropel fazy rozproszonej zmniejszają się wraz ze wzrostem stężenia emulgatora. Struktura emulsji zależy od lepkości oleju. Lepkość emulsji, jej struktura, wielkość kropel oraz lepkość oleju wpływają na stabilność emulsji.

The effect of emulsifier concentration on droplet sizes, rheological properties and emulsions stability is shown in the paper. It was proved that emulsion viscosity increases with the increase of emulsifier concentration. The droplet diameters of dispersed phase decrease with the increase of emulsifier concentration. The emulsion structure depends on oil viscosity. The emulsion viscosity, emulsion structure and droplet sizes affect the emulsion stability.

The centrifugal pumps, used for the intra-trade oil transportation are works on the gas saturated oil-water emulsions. The construction of pumps influences physical-chemistry and rheological properties of the transported emulsion, in flow area structural changes occur, dispersiveness and viscosity rise. The properties of emulsion, in turn influence pump specification, is reduced efficiency, increase the required power. New method of the analysis of pump specifications is proposed, solutions by increase of effectiveness in the work of pumps on emulsion given.

This paper presents the results of the determination of the structure of diphase media, namely the emulsion of transformer oil in water. The determination was made by solving the so-called inverse problem. The necessary information about the medium was gained using the attenuation spectra analysis. Research was limited to the attenuation spectra measurements and multiple repeated modeling. The results were compared with the measured spectra. The knowledge regarding the optical properties of phases of the emulsion was necessary hi these calculations. The spectra of refraction indexes of oil and water as well as the spectrum of attenuation coefficient were measured.

Dokonano przeglądu, podawanych w literaturze, sposobów obliczania lepkości mieszanin emulsyjnych. Podjęto próbę oceny możliwości wykorzystania tych metod do opisu lepkości skoncentrowanych wodno—olejowych mieszanin emulsyjnych. Analizę cytowanych równań, oparto na wynikach własnych badań eksperymentalnych. Na podstawie przeprowadzonych prac, wskazano na równania najlepiej opisujące lepkość mieszaniny emulsyjnej.

A literature survey of calculation methods dealing with viscosity of emulsion mixtures is given. An attempt of employing these methods in the description of viscosity of concentrated oil—water emulsion mixtures was made. The analysis of equations cited was based on the own experimental results. The best equations for calculation of viscosity of emulsion mixture were selected.

Badano właściwości i separację emulsji „olej napędowy w wodzie”, powstających w mieszalniku. Struktury emulsji obserwowano metodami spektrofotometrii i fotografii mikroskopowej. Proces odolejania wody prowadzono w aparacie kolumnowym z nieruchomą olejową warstwą chłonną.

Properties and separation of the diesel oil / water emulsion created in a vessel have been investigated. The emulsion structures were observed by means of spectroscopic and microscope photography methods. The water deoiling process has been carried out applicating column apparatus with oil absorption layer.
