Evaluation of the nitrification process in sewage treatment plants with active sludge with application of two methods of calculating sludge's age (classical one, based on sludge mass balance in the system and so called dynamic sludge's age). The method of dynamic sludge's age considers the substrate charge reaching bio-reactor, mass of sludge produced within 24 hours, mass of sludge left inside the system and lost as a result of endogen respiration. The method of dynamic sludge's age reflects the real conditions in which the treatment process takes place to a bigger extent and allows for better control of the sewage treatment process than sludge's age defined by the classical method.
