Miasta i tereny zurbanizowane od zarania historii związane są z ciekami wodnymi, nad którymi są najczęściej położone. Obecnie zdecydowana większość rzek płynących przez obszary miejskie nie przypomina cieków naturalnych. Działania polegające na regulacji koryta rzecznego i ujednolicania jego morfologii w konsekwencji prowadzą do zubożenia i niekiedy dewastacji ekosystemów wodnych oraz powodują często nieodwracalne zmiany w obiegu wody. Praca podejmuje tematykę oceny hydromorfologicznej cieków na obszarach zurbanizowanych w świetle Ramowej Dyrektywy Wodnej oraz uwarunkowania z zakresu zarządzania obszarami wód płynących na terenach miejskich w Polsce.

Since the dawn of time, cities and urbanized areas have been linked to watercourses over which they are located most frequently. Nowadays, the vast majority of rivers flowing through urban areas do not resemble natural watercourses. Measures consisting of regulation the riverbed and consolidation of its morphology, in consequence, lead to the impoverishment and sometimes devastation of aquatic ecosystems and often cause irreversible changes in water circulation. The article undertakes the subject of the hydromorphological assessment of watercourses in urbanized areas in the light of the Water Framework Directive and the conditions in terms of management of areas of water flowing in urbanized areas in Poland.

Planning and implementation of effective restoration projects require appropriate assessment of a river’s hydromorphological status. Two European standards on hydromorphological assessment of rivers and hydromorphological assessment methods used in Poland are reviewed in the context of their applicability for river restoration purposes. River Hydromorphological Quality assessment method is presented with a case study of the Biała River, Polish Carpathians, where this assessment was used as basis for a restoration project aimed to establish an erodible river corridor. The results of the assessment revealed significant differences in hydromorphological quality between unmanaged and channelized river cross-sections, indicating channel regulation as a major cause of the hydromorphological degradation of the Biała and confirming the choice of the erodible river corridor as an appropriate method of its restoration. The assessment indicated hydromorphological features of the river that were severely modified within the channelized reaches and which are likely to improve the most with the removal of bank protection and allowing free channel migration.

W artykule wskazano najważniejsze czynniki degradujące stan ekologiczny rzek na podstawie wyników oceny warunków hydromorfologicznych dla odcinków dolin rzecznych zlokalizowanych w górnej, zurbanizowanej i uprzemysłowionej części zlewni rzeki Kłodnicy. Ocenę uwarunkowań hydromorfologicznych przeprowadzono przeznaczoną dla terenów miejskich brytyjską metodą Urban River Survey. Na podstawie analizy wyników badania określone zostały najważniejsze kierunki działań oraz rekomendacje dla ochrony walorów ekologicznych i krajobrazowych miejskich przestrzeni nadrzecznych.

This paper finds most important impacts for river valley ecosystem. Survey based on hydromorphological assessment for parts of river valley located in urbanized and industrialized part of Kłodnica catchment. The research was carried by British method destined for urban areas – Urban River Survey. As a result of the tests factors determining the value of assessing hydromorphological conditions and conditions affecting the catchments river valley were indicated. The effect of the analysis are recommendations for the protection of ecological values and landscape of riverside urban spaces.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań zależności warunków hydromorfologicznych rzek miejskich na udział grup roślinności w korycie rzecznym. Badanie przeprowadzone na przykładzie rzek w zurbanizowanej i przemysłowej części Górnego Śląska potwierdziło istotne związki pomiędzy zagospodarowaniem i użytkowaniem doliny rzecznej, a typem roślinności w korycie, jak również pozwoliło na określenie zależności poszczególnych czynników na wybrane grupy roślin wodnych.

This paper is focused on the results of research about the relationship between hydromorphological condition and share of plants in river bed. Assessment, made in urbanized and heavy industry part of Upper Silesia, provide proof of strong relation between land use, land cover in river valley and type of river vegetation. Moreover, the relationship between hydromorphological indicators and groups of plants was defined.

Przedstawiono informacje o metodach oceny hydromorfologicznego stanu rzek stosowanych za granicą i w Polsce. W naszym kraju nadal nie określono metody możliwej do wdrożenia i zgodnej z EN 14614.

The article presents information on methods of hydromorphological rivers assessment rivers used in Poland and abroad. In Poland there still is no method that would be possible to implement and would comply with the EN 14 614 norm.
