W kształtowaniu optyki papieru powlekanego bardzo ważny jest dobór składników powłoki oraz zrozumienie współdziałania warstw powłoki z papierem podłożowym. Na podstawie przeprowadzonych doświadczeń stwierdzono, że przy niskim objętościowym stężeniu pigmentu (PVC - Pigment Volume Concentration) suche powłoki wykazywały niską zdolność kryjącą, a przy wysokich PVC naniesienie powłoki powodowało wzrost zdolności kryjącej. Wzrost udziału pigmentu zwiększa zdolność kryjącą powłok na skutek wzrostu ilości porów "dostarczających" powierzchni, na których światło może ulegać załamaniu i rozpraszaniu. Zastosowanie metody monitorowania zmian zdolności kryjącej pozwala na natychmiastowe stwierdzenie, czy badana powłoka znajduje się poniżej, czy też powyżej krytycznego objętościowego stężenia pigmentu (CPVC) oraz umożliwia określenie tej wartości dla danego układu.

During the shaping the coated paper optical properties an important role is played by the selection of the coating constituents as well as an understanding of the co-operation of the coating layers with the base paper. Basing on the performed experiences it was found that at a low volumetric concentration of the pigment (PVC - Pigment Volume Concentration) the dry coats shoe a low covering power and at high PVC the coating resulted in an increase in the covering power an increase in the participation of the pigment increases the covering powers of the coatings caused by an increase in the number of pores "delivering" the surfaces on which the light can be reflected and scattered. The use of the method for monitoring the variations in the covering power permits to immediate state if the tested coating is below or over the critical pigment volumetric concentration (CPVC) and makes it possible to determine this volume for the given system.
