The zooplankton community structure in bays fluctuates as a result of anthropogenic activities in such waters. We focused on the short-term variability of a zooplankton community and compared its differences at the outflow of a nuclear power plant (ONPP), in a marine cage-culture area (MCCA) and in unpolluted waters (UW) in the south-west part of Daya Bay from 28 April to 1 June 2001. Environmental factors and zooplankton abundance differed significantly among stations at ONPP, MCCA and UW: high temperatures and a high zooplankton abundance occurred at ONPP, while a high chlorophyll a concentration and a low zooplankton abundance prevailed in MCCA. Statistical analysis revealed that the zooplankton diversity and abundance could be reduced by the activity of the marine cage-culture in a short time. Penilia avirostris made up an important component of the zooplankton in the study area, its abundance ranging widely from 16 to 7267 indiv. m-3 from April to June and peaking at the ONPP outflow. The outbreak of P. avirostris probably resulted from the combined effects of favourable water temperature, food concentration and its parthenogenetic behaviour.

Spółce PGE S.A., inwestorowi pierwszych elektrowni jądrowych w Polsce, są obecnie oferowane dwa rodzaje jądrowych bloków energetycznych generacji III+, wyposażonych w reaktory lekkowodne: dwa z reaktorami typu PWR (EPR i AP 1000) oraz jeden z reaktorem typu BWR (ESBWR). W artykule podano podstawowe cechy bezpieczeństwa wymienionych reaktorów i stwierdzono, że wszystkie one zapewniają wysoki poziom bezpieczeństwa jądrowego.

The joint stock company PGE S.A., an investor of the first nuclear power stations in Poland, has now been offered two types of the III+ generation nuclear power units equipped with light water reactors: two with PWR type reactors (EPR and AP 1000) and one with the BWR type (ESBWR) one. Described are the basic safety features of the mentioned reactors and expressed is an opinion that all of them guarantee high level of nuclear safety.

Katastrofa elektrowni nuklearnej Fukushima Dai-ichi, w marcu 2011 roku, wstrząsnęła światem. Była to największa z trzech katastrof, jakie wydarzyły się dotychczas w elektrowniach jądrowych. Katastrofę zapoczątkowało trzęsienie ziemi o skali 9,0. Znacznie groźniejsze okazało się jednak tsunami, które zalało elektrownię po trzęsieniu ziemi. W artykule omówiono walkę z żywiołem oraz niektóre błędy popełnione przy budowie elektrowni oraz w czasie jej ratowania.

The paper presents the use of neural networks to create a dependence model of the content of a radioactive mineral Co on the content of five metals in the water of a nuclear reactor. Very promising models of the process were received which gives hope to research the sensitivity of the model towards changes of the input parameters. At the same time a great importance of the history of measurements at creating the model was proved.

Zajęto się zagadnieniami dotyczącymi: redukcji dawek wokół instalacji jądrowych, szkodliwości małych dawek promieniowania dla zdrowia ludzi, badań mieszkańców rejonów o podwyższonym tle promieniowania, osiągnięć w badaniach procesów biologicznych po napromieniowaniu ludzi, redukcji zagrożenia w razie awarii elektrowni jądrowej.

Poland confronts again with the perspective of construction of the nuclear power station, with reactors of the newest generation. In half of previous century many questions were asked and many objections were presented against nuclear power; they must be answered before the construction of the nuclear power station is agreed. In the paper discussed are following problems: the dose reduction around the nuclear objects, harmfulness of small dose radiation for health of the people, exploration of the people in regions with higher radiation background, achievements in investigation of biological processes of the people after radiation, reduction of the menace in the case of the failure in the nuclear power station.
