Discussion on importance of tungsten carbide – cobalt (WC-Co) cemented carbide and its critical characterization for wear mechanisms based on mining applications

Cemented carbide (CC) is an important material for the mining tools. During mining applications, the service life of the CC gets highly reduced due to complex conditions offered by mines. In various applications, such as, rock drilling and coal cutting, the tools show different type of wear behaviour. Wear assessment has been an important area of research for a long time. In order to develop improved mechanical properties in the tools, it is necessary to know the characteristics and cause of wear mechanisms. For analyzing wear mechanisms in the CC, researchers have adopted mainly three different conditions. They are: rock drilling, coal cutting, and laboratory wear test methods. In the present work, an attempt has been made to review and summarize all those wear mechanisms found in the CC. The causes and effects of each mechanism are also explained comprehensively. In addition, various properties of recently developed cemented carbide have also been discussed.

Węglik spiekany (CC) jest znanym od dawna lecz wciąż powszechnie używanym twardym stopem metalu. Korzystne właściwości węglika spiekanego sprawiają, że jest niezwykle pożądanym materiałem z którego wykonywane są narzędzia górnicze. W trakcie prowadzenia wierceń w skałach i urabiania skał, narzędzia pracują w bardzo złożonych warunkach i różnorodnych zastosowaniach, stąd też wykazują różne oznaki zużycia zmęczeniowego. Ponieważ zużycie materiału skraca okres eksploatacji narzędzi, wielu badaczy podjęło się badań nad tym zagadnieniem. Kwestia oceny zużycia zmęczeniowego narzędzi wykonanych z węglika spiekanego badana jest od dłuższego czasu. Niezbędne jest poznanie charakterystyki procesu zużycia zmęczeniowego i jego przyczyn tak by można wyodrębnić do badania narzędzia nadające się do dłuższej eksploatacji, tym samym poprawiając opłacalność produkcji. Badano rozmaite mechanizmy zużycia zmęczeniowego węglików spiekanych związane z użytkowaniem narzędzi w wiertnictwie oraz urabianiu skał, opracowano także laboratoryjne metody jego badania. W artykule tym podjęto próbę zebrania i usystematyzowania wszystkich mechanizmów zużycia zmęczeniowego, jakiemu podlegają narzędzia wykonane z węglików spiekanych. Przyczyny i skutki każdego z procesów rozpatrywano w ujęciu całościowym. Ponadto, omówiono właściwości niedawno opracowanych węglików spiekanych.

Rozwój technologiczny układów cyfrowej automatyki zabezpieczeniowej oraz jej złożoność niosą ze sobą nowe wyzwania przy testowaniu zabezpieczeń w wybranym obszarze systemu elektroenergetycznego. Dotychczas sprawdzeniu podlegają jedynie wprowadzone do zabezpieczenia nastawy z uwzględnieniem dopuszczalnych tolerancji. Standardowe testy nie dają jednoznacznej odpowiedzi, czy dla danych warunków sieciowych analizowane zabezpieczenie zadziała prawidłowo. W artykule przedstawiono narzędzie, które w prosty sposób poszerza zakres standardowych badań zabezpieczeń o testy sprawdzające, czy zabezpieczany obiekt jest chroniony w sposób właściwy i skuteczny.

New technology of power protection automation and its complexity brings new challenges in testing of protection relays, which should verify its proper behavior in power systems. Standard tests don’t give an answer that tested protection relay will operate correctly in specified system conditions. Previous tests verify only the settings of the relays including the tolerances specified by relay’s manufacturers. This paper shows a tool, which in easy way, extends the scope of standard tests of protection relays and confirm that elements of power systems are protected properly and reliably.

New media (web 2.0 tools) have been applauded as new and effective means of discovering and sharing scientific (scholarly) knowledge. The reality, nonetheless, does not show any revolution in this field. On the other hand we cannot deny that researchers do use new media, though they are likely to accept new methods if they improve research and do not threaten its reputation. They welcome new media practices if they do not make them to deviate from their existing priorities and principles. Not surprisingly new media is often used to support the informal conversations between esearchers, while there is no evidence that it would function as an alternative way of formally publishing research findings. Information professionals, especially academic librarians have to keep an eye on these developments, including issues of big data, data citation and open access without losing sight of the main mission of the library, as professionalism means that we are neither masters nor slaves of technology.

Nowe media (narzędzia Web 2.0) zostały uznane jako nowe i skuteczne sposoby odkrywania i udostępniania naukowej wiedzy. W rzeczywistości jednak, nie wykazują żadnej rewolucji w tej dziedzinie. Z drugiej strony nie możemy zaprzeczyć, że naukowcy nie korzystają z nowych mediów, są skłonni zaakceptować te nowe metody, jeśli poprawiają badania i nie zagrażają ich ważności. Przyjmują nowe praktyki medialne pod warunkiem, że nie powodują one zmiany dotychczasowych priorytetów i zasad. Nie dziwi więc fakt, że nowe media są często używane do obsługi nieformalnej wymiany informacji i rozmów między badaczami, podczas gdy nie ma dowodów na to, że funkcjonują jako alternatywny sposób publikowania wyników badań. Pracownicy informacji, szczególnie bibliotekarze akademiccy, powinni zwracać uwagę na te zmiany, szczególnie dostęp do danych, cytowania oraz otwartego dostępu do wiedzy, uwzględniając jednak podstawowe zadania biblioteki akademickiej.

Hybrid control system and visualization of the actual performance of the two different drives can be realized by PLC controller and SCADA system witch could be installed on simple computer with LCD display. The components and main idea of connecting PLC controller with the SCADA system and simple computer to control hybrid drive system will be implemented to prototype hybrid scooter. This scooter was built by Marcin Terelak and Ernest Ozga during their master studies on Wroclaw University of Technology few years ago. Hybrid vehicle is vehicle which combines a conventional propulsion system with an on-board rechargeable energy storage system to achieve better fuel economy than a conventional vehicle without being hampered by range from a charging unit like a battery electric vehicle, which uses batteries charged by an external source. Prototype hybrid scooter has a conventional engine (gasoline) as well as a four lithium-ion batteries and an electric motor, so that the wheels of the vehicle are driven by both an internal combustion engine and an electric motor. Authors showed in the article actual steering control system and parameters of prototype hybrid scooter and also the idea of implementation SCADA system, embedded single board computer and PLC controller to control hybrid drive in prototype scooter. Single-board computers (SBCs) means complete computers built on a single circuit board. Embedded Single Board Computers are much smaller than ATX motherboards, and provide an I/O mix more targeted to an industrial application such as on-board digital and analog I/O, on-board bootable flash so no hard drive is required. Information about single-board computers (DEVKIT8000) and implementation of this computer to control hybrid vehicles engines will be the showed in second part of this article. Programmable logic controller (PLC) as a microprocessor-based system that accepts input data from switches and sensors, processes that data by making decisions in accordance with a stored program, and then generates output signals to devices that perform a particular function based on the application. SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) is very flexible solution for example to choose between the parameters and driving modes in prototype hybrid scooter and also to show information from controller on touch panel.

Characteristic of the postmodernist approach has been the creation of signifying places by combining apparently heterogeneous means of expression, borrowings and quotations from other cultures and historical periods (including vernacular and local traditions) in order to emphasise the fragmentation of contemporary landscape and its multi-layer structure and the effects resulting from an accidental superimposition of vistas. The analysed examples indicate that the influence of postmodernism on the form (style) of artistic expression in landscape architecture peaked in the 1980s. Since the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio there has been a marked increase of interest in the idea of sustainable development. The tendency was clearly confirmed by presentations prepared by countries participating in EXPO 2000, looking back at the passing epoch. The underlying theme seems a desire for the New Synthesis to reconcile cultural diversity and democratic forms of spatial planning and management, involving citizen participation (heritage of postmodernism), with protection of biological diversity (principal element of sustainable development strategy).
