Modernization stages of the installation, which is a part of technological line of saltpetre fertilizers production system in Zakłady Azotowe ,,Kędzierzyn" S.A. are presented. At present, ZAK owns the most modern ammonia unit in Poland, one modern and one outdated nitric acid unit, and two modern units for granulated saltpetre fertilizers. Zakłady Azotowe ,,Kędzierzyn" S.A. produces and is prepared for the production of saltpetre fertilizers that contain boron, potassium, phosphorus, sodium, calcium and magnesium beside nitrogen also sulphur.

During the processes of various types of catalysts production, waste sodium nitrate solutions are generated. Until recently they were utilized during the production process of potassium nitrate. Because new and cheaper methods of this substance production are developed, Zaklady Azotowe w Tarnowie-Moscicach S.A. are forced to develop another method of waste sodium nitrate solutions utilization. As a result of the performed research it has been found out that they may be used during the saltpetre fertilizers production.

Zakłady Azotowe ,,Kędzierzyn" S.A. have been manufacturing nitrogen-sulphur fertilizer of a trade name Salmag GM with sulphur for a few years. Anhydrite was a source of sulphur foi* this fertilizer until the year 2000. The industrial test results during which anhydrite was partially substituted with phosphogypsum coming from ZCh ,,Wiz6w" S.A. are presented. The products exhibiting very good physicochemical properties (similar and sometimes even better compared with the products obtained only with anhydrite) were obtained during the tests. The product has increased the water contents, yet not decreasing its quality. The tests were totally successful. Anhydrite may be partially substituted with phosphogypsum in the present system operating in ZAK.
