W 1997 roku Międzynarodowa Organizacja Morska wprowadziła Załącznik VI do konwencji Marpol. Załącznik ten narzuca konieczność monitoringu i ograniczania emisji tlenków azotu z silników okrętowych. W artykule zaprezentowano zarys przepisów zawartych w Załączniku VI konwencji Marpol oraz pewne aspekty modelowania emisji tlenków azotu z silników okrętowych, które mogą być wykorzystane do oceny poziomu emisji.

The International Maritime Organization introduced Annex VI to Marpol Convention in 1997. This Annex forces to monitoring and limited the nitric oxides emission from ship engines. In this paper, a draft of Annex VI regulations is presented. The some modeling aspects of nitric oxides emission from ship engines are presented as well. The results of modeling could be applied to assess the emission level.

In the paper a concept of a simplified assesssment method of amount of nitric oxides emitted by a ship diesel engine is presented together with preliminary investigations carried out to verify the proposed concept. The research was based on the requirements of IMO Technical Code on limitation of NOx emitted from ship diesel engines.

The paper presents the results of experimental investigations on NOx (NO + NO2) formation during LPG combustion in a fluidized bed of sand. Experiments were carried out by adding NO to the gases at different concentrations. NO conversion to NO2 was examined. It was found out that NO is the precursor of NO2 but the relationship between NO and NO2 concentrations is nonlinear and there is a discrepancy in the balance of combined N.
