Identification of Transition Curves in Vehicular Roads and Railways

In the paper attention is focused on the necessity to systematize the procedure for determining the shape of transition curves used in vehicular roads and railway routes. There has been presented a universal method of identifying curvature in transition curves by using differential equations. Curvature equations for such known forms of transition curves as clothoid, quartic parabola, the Bloss curve, cosinusoid and sinusoid, have been worked out and by the use these equations it was possible to determine some appropriate Cartesian coordinates. In addition some approximate solutions obtained in consequence of making certain simplifying assumptions orientated mainly towards railway routes, have been provided. Notice has been taken of limitations occurring in the application of smooth transition curves in railway systems, which can be caused by very small values of the horizontal ordinates in the initial region. This problem has provided an inspiration for finding a new family of the so-called parametric transition curves, being more advantageous not only over the clothoid but also over cubic parabola as far as dynamics is concerned.

Choć w ostatnich dziesięcioleciach, na świecie obserwuje się dynamiczny rozwój konstrukcji z betonu sprężonego w budownictwie kubaturowym, to w Polsce realizacje kablobetonowych stropów dużych rozpiętości są niezwykle rzadko spotykane. W artykule skrótowo przedstawiono zalety stosowania płyt sprężonych i opisano typowe rozwiązania konstrukcyjne stropów kablobetonowych. Opisano pierwszą w Polsce realizację kablobetonowego stropu gęstożebrowego w budynku hotelowo-konferencyjnym w Krakowie. Wieloprzęsłowe żeberka stropu sprężone zostały ciągłymi cięgnami bez przyczepności, a odciążenie konstrukcji uzyskano przez wypełnienie lekkimi wkładami styropianowymi. Na przykładzie tej realizacji podkreślono również wagę problemu kształtowania otworów w tego typu konstrukcjach.

Although in recent decades, the world observed a dynamic development of prestressed concrete structures in cubature civil engineering, the realization of large span prestressed floor slabs is extremely rare in Poland. The article summarizes the advantages of using prestressed slabs and describes the typical design solutions for PC floors. The first implementation in Poland of prestressed rib-and-rib slab floor in the conference building in Krakow is presented. Multi-span slab's ribs were prestressed with continuous unbonded tendons, and the relief of the structure was obtained by filling it with light polystyrene inserts. On the example of that realization, the importance of the problem of making openings in such structures was also highlighted.

In order to achieve the final breakthrough in the furniture area some development work is still waiting to be accomplished. We must therefore succeed in making smooth coating, from high gloss to satin matt. With LB powders, very fine, haptically hardly sensible structures, this may be obtained already, however, it remains to be a huge leap to come to high gloss lacquers on MDF. With the UV powder coatings it is already principally possible, however, not in a single-layer application but only after powder or liquid lacquer is primed with intermediate sanding. In this respect the application of thermo-smoothing that was developed at the Institut fur Holztechnologie in Dresden offers a new solution. New properties of powder coating, like weather resistance, open new possibilities for other substrates WPC and SMC alike, which have nearly the same properties as MDF substrate. Freedom from solvent, high material efficiency by recycling and reusability of overspray, as well as savings in time and energy in a single-layer application should be sufficient reasons to focus on powder coating.

Zarówno producenci płyt MDF jak i producenci powłok proszkowych znacznie rozwinęli swoje techniki wytwórcze. Spodziewany jest sukces w produkcji gładkich powłok od powłok o wysokim połysku do powłok wykonanych w satynowym macie. Bardzo drobne, trudne do wyczucia struktury, jakimi są proszki LB, pozwalają już częściowo osiągnąć ten cel, jednak wytworzenie lakierów o wysokim połysku na płytach MDF ciągle jeszcze pozostaje odległym zadaniem. Zadanie to jest już w zasadzie możliwe do wykonania z zastosowaniem powłok proszkowych UV, jednakże nie w technologii powlekania jedną warstwą, lecz z zastosowaniem pośredniego gruntowania lakieru płynnego lub proszkowego. Pod tym względem zastosowanie termowygładzania, która to technologia została opracowana w Instytucie Technologii Drewna w Dreźnie, jest rozwiązaniem nowym. Nowe właściwości powłok proszkowych, takie jak odporność na warunki pogodowe, otwierają możliwości w zakresie innych podłoży, zarówno WPC jak i SMC, które mają prawie takie same cechy jak podłoże MDF. Uwolnienie się od rozpuszczalników, nadmiaru rozpylanego środka do powlekania powierzchni (odpady nie stanowią tu problemu), jak również oszczędność czasu i energii poprzez stosowanie metody powlekania jedną warstwą, powinny stanowić wystarczający powód, aby skoncentrować się na powłokach proszkowych.
